The story of George Lazenby and his time as James Bond, for one movie, is something of a Hollywood legend. It turns out maybe the bad boy of Bond maybe isn’t quite a rehabilitated as we thought.

He has been removed from a Bond related tour that he was headlining back home in his native Australia.

The Music of James Bond was an orchestral tour of major cities showcasing the famous soundtracks and notable themes. The tour was hosted by George Lazenby himself. Apparently his set included “unacceptable” jokes that have seen him removed from the tour. There are no recordings of the incident, which occurred on September 9, 2022, in Perth, but somebody in the audience has been talking:

“He spent all of the interview just talking basically about his sexual conquests, he swore, he certainly wasn’t talking about his Bond movies, he downplayed the Queen, a day after she died. He named women he had slept with, and there were children in the audience, and a lot of families who had brought their kids probably to their first classical music concert.”

Theatre producer Concertworks said it was extremely saddened and disappointed by Lazenby’s language, comments and recollections throughout the show and released as statement via attorney Aaron Kernaghan:

“These were his personal views and there is no excuse for this in today’s society. They do not reflect the views of Concertworks. In the meantime, it has chosen to discontinue its relationship with Mr Lazenby and has commenced a thorough review of the matter.”

Lazenby himself has responded, somewhat hurt and surprised by the incident:

“I am sorry and saddened to hear that my stories in Perth on Saturday might have offended some people. It was never my intention to make hurtful or homophobic comments, and I am truly sorry if my stories that I have shared many times, for example in the documentary ‘Becoming Bond’, were taken that way. I personally have friends within my close circle who are gay, and I would never wish to offend anyone. Having been surrounded by strong women all my life, I have always admired and respected women and their wishes.”

He went on to talk about his settled family life and his pride in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Without seeing a recording of his set, it is hard to judge if this was an over sensitive audience, or a man out of time.

Aussies are pretty famous for their robust humor and direct nature.
