Feige Reveals FANTASTIC FOUR Difference

When Disney acquired Fox in 2019 it meant that both Fantastic Four and X-Men came back into the MCU fold. Expectations were high that movies starring these premier league Marvel character groups would be imminent. It didn’t quite work out like that.

It is rumored that Marvel Studios can do nothing with X-Men just yet, as the actors from the Fox iterations are still covered by play-or-pay contracts meaning they get a pay out if the roles are re-cast while the contracts are in place. They need to wait out the expiry.

No such complications covered the previous adaptations of Fantastic Four, such as the version which starred Chris Evans, Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, and Ioan Gruffudd or the disastrous 2015 version with Michael B Jordan, Kate Mara, Miles Teller and Jamie Bell.

So as a result Fantastic Four was the first to make its way into the MCU, now desperately in need of a big ticket item with the original Avengers scattered and the Guardians Of The Galaxy bowing out after their third adventure. They will appear in Marvel’s Phase 6 on November 8th 2024.

The character of Reed Richards already appeared as a multiverse version, played by John Krasinski, in Doctor Strange And The Multiverse Of Madness. Why didn’t Ioan Gruffudd reprise the role? Does this mean Krasinski will play the role in the upcoming movie? There were rumors his real-life wife would appear as Sue Storm alongside him.

There were no further details known about the approach they will take to bring Fantastic Four into the MCU, until now.

In an interview in The Hollywood Reporter, Feige has revealed it will not follow the previous adaptions approach. It’s not going to be an origin story.

“A lot of people know this origin story,” he said. “A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before? We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”

Phase Six will also include two new Avengers movies, so Phase 5 has some heavy lifting to do in order to build a new team.
