About Daniel Kaluuya

Daniel Kaluuya is most notable for his role in the television series “Skins” and the horror Film “Get Out”. He played the role of Posh Kenneth for 11 episodes in two seasons of “Skins” and he also wrote two episodes. He began his career as an improv artist. 

His lead role in the play “Sucker Punch” won him two awards namely the Critics’ Circle Award and Evening Standard Award. 

Black Mirror is considered one of the best dystopian sci-fi. In the episode “Fifteen Million Merits”, Daniel Kaluuya played the role of Bingham Madison. He gained much critical praise and love from the audience for his excellent performance. This helped boost his fame and made him more popular. 

He also played the role of Tealeaf in the comedy series “Psychoville”. He also starred in a horror series titled “The Fades”. 

The film “Kick-Ass” was a cult hit. In the sequel titled “Kick-Ass 2”, Kaluuya portrayed the role of the character Black Death. 

He also starred in the critically acclaimed horror film titled “Get Out” which further boosted his fame and got him an Academy Award Nomination. 

In the 2018 film”Black Panther“, Daniel Kaluuya portrayed the role of W’Kabi. The same year he also had a role in the film “Widows”.

Early Life

Daniel Kaluuya was born to parents Damalie Nausoke and Stephen Kaluuya in London on February 24, 1989. His parents are originally from Uganda. He has an older sister. 

After his father returned to Uganda, her mother raised him and her sister. They lived in a public housing in Kentish Town. The UK regulations didn’t allow his father to make visits frequently. 

Daniel studied in a Catholic school named St. Aloysius College. He loved writing as a kid and at the age of nine, he wrote his first-ever play. He won the competition due to this play and as a result, it was performed at a theatre in London.

As a kid, he loved football and was a devoted supporter of Arsenal. He also attended the Anna Scher Theatre School.

Career

He started off his career with improv theatre. He acted like a child at a local theatre. He also acted at WAC arts. 

One of his earliest performances can be seen in the drama “Shoot the Messenger” where he played the character of Reece. 

After he joined “Skins”, he played the role of Kenneth for 11 episodes and he wrote two episodes, namely, “Jal” and “Thomas”. 

After his role in “Skins”, Daniel played various minor roles in TV shows including “Doctor Who”.

He played the role of Parking Pataweyo in the sketch “Harry and Paul”. He was a fan favorite in the sketch. He was a regular in the comedy “FM” in 2009.

Kaluuya also appeared in several short films like the award-winning short film “Baby”. He played the role of Agent Tucker in the 2003 film “Johnny English Reborn”. 

The “Black Mirror” episode called “Fifteen Million Merits” initially aired in 2011. His performance was outstanding and it caught the attention of the director of the film “Get Out”. 

This film garnered him worldwide recognition and is considered his breakthrough role. The film was one of the best horror films of the year. 

2016 saw him being cast in a role in the MCU film “Black Panther”. “Black Panther” took the world by storm and many people came to know him but the character W’Kabi. 

In2018, he voiced Bluebell in the miniseries “Watership Down”.

In 2019, he appeared in the film “Queen & Slim” as the character named Slim.

In 2021, he is to appear as Fred Hampton in the film titled “Judas and the Black Messiah”.

Personal Life

Daniel lives in West London. He loves grime music and is a devoted supporter of t6hr football club Arsenal FC. It was difficult for him to find roles at first due to his skin color.

He has kept his personal life secret and intends to keep it that way in the future. He was spotted with his girlfriend Amandla in the Golden Globe Awards Ceremony of 2018. 

He has his own production company that has an exclusive deal with Paramount Pictures.
