Gemma Whelan’s full name is Gemma Elizabeth Whelan. She was born in Leeds on 23rd April 1981. She spent her childhood in the Midlands. She completed her high school education from a girl’s only high school in Warwick. Later, she attended the London Studio Centre. Gemma was also a part of a professional dance group called Beaux Belles.

Gemma Whelan was a stand-up comedian before her acting career began. For her excellent comedic performance, she won a Funny Women Variety Award in 2010. In 2013, she performed at the Edinburgh Fringe. She performed with the show “Chastity Butterworth & The Spanish Hamster”. She had also recorded a pilot chat show for her character as Butterworth for BBC Radio 4 in 2014.

Gemma has appeared in supporting roles in several films and television series including “Gulliver’s Travels” and “The Wolfman”.

The character of Yara Greyjoy is also known as “Lady Reaper of Pyke”. She is the only surviving child of Balon Greyjoy. She is a warrior and commander of her longship Black Wind. Gemma Whelan portrays this character in “Game of Thrones”. She first appeared in the second season of GOT. 

In 2020, she played Anna Eaton in the TV series “White House Farm” and Geraldine Martens in “Killing Eve”.
