Kel Mitchell is an American actor/musician/singer/rapper/stand-up comedian who is best known for his performance in the Nickelodeon sketch comedy called “All That.”

He also played the role of the Invisible Boy in the superhero satire film named “Mystery Men.” With this, he is also popular for playing the role of Kel Kimble on the sitcom Kenan & Kel. 

Mitchell ranked second in the 28th season of “Dancing with the Stars” and has also appeared in tv shows like “Game Shakers”, and “Motor City” to name a few. 

He has also appeared in the video of “All Fall Down” by Kanye West.

Mitchel started acting at an early age and was one of the most in-demand young actors during his time. He was able to impress the audience worldwide with his performance in “All That”. This caught the attention of several studios and the request for roles started flooding in. 

He is also a talented voice actor and an equally talented rapper who has done songs for many of the films and series he has starred in.

Early Life

His full name is Kel Johari Rice Mitchell. His birth took place on August 25, 1978, in Chicago. He grew up in the South Side of Chicago where he attended Chicago Vocational High School. He also took drama classes at a creative arts foundation. Kenyatta and Kyra are his two sisters. 

His parents were always supportive of him. They saw and respected his talent in acting and comedy. They were fully supportive of his dream of becoming an actor and did everything they could to make it happen.

He has loved acting ever since he was a kid. He could be seen entertaining his classmates with his antics and act of mimicking others in his school days.

Ethnicity: He is of African-American ethnicity. 

Career

Kel Mitchell was always interested in acting but his interest peaked and he started looking at it with a serious pair of eyes after he got accepted into ETA Arts Foundation. 

The early theatrical productions were conducted in his home city Chicago. He performed in plays like “Kasimu and the Coconut Palm” and “Dirt.” Through them, he enchanted the crowd with his magical performance. He gained much popularity after he played in “Eden” in Victoria Garden Theatre.

After being impressed by Mitchell’s performance, a prominent talent agent in the crowd contacted him. This was a life-changing moment for Kel as he got to be a part of a popular kid’s show on Nickelodeon. Kel outperformed all the kids present there and proved his worth and skills and bagged the part in the show “All That.”

The show lasted from 1994 to 1999 and Kel appeared in all the episodes. He starred alongside Kenan Thompson. The duo was so renowned that they were signed up together for many future projects. 

They were featured in a spin-off titled “Kenan and Kel” which was later made into a full film named “Good Burger.” 

Kel Mitchell was a rising star in Hollywood. He played in “Sister Sister” and “The Steve Harvey Show.”

The breakthrough in his career as a Hollywood star came in 1999 with the film “Mystery Man” where he played the role of Invisible Man. 

In 2000, he starred in “The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle” alongside Robert De Nero and Rene Russo. 

He voiced the character of T-Bone in “Clifford the Big Red Dog” which was well appreciated by many.

He portrayed the role of a valet in Kanye West’s music video for the song “All Falls Down.”

Prior to this, he had appeared in the video for Smash Mouth’s “All-Star.”

In 2017, he appeared in the video for Khalid’s song titled “Young, Dumb & Broke” as a cook.

In 2004, he co-hosted a show called “Dance 360.”

Mitchell played the role of Manny Sellers in “One on One” from 2004 to 2005. 

In 2006, a rumor that Kel died had spread in My Space. This death hoax didn’t last long as Kel later verified that he was alive and well.

He wrote and produced his own film titled “Dance Fu.” He also starred in the lead role of the film. The film however wasn’t well received and had low ratings.

Kel played the role of Double G in the sitcom titled “Game Shakers” which first aired on September 12, 2015.

Kel Mitchell placed second on the 28th season of “Dancing with the Stars.”

Personal Life

Before they divorced in 20005, Tyisha Hampton and Kel Mitchell were married for 6 years and had two children together. 

He married Asia Lee on February 25, 2012. Asia Lee is a rapper. She gave birth to a daughter in July 2017. It was announced that they were expecting a second child in 2020.
