Mary Elizabeth Winstead is an American actress and singer who gained wide attention as ‘Scream Queen’ for her role in the horror genre films like Monster Island, Final Destination 3, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and many more. She is mostly known for her role of Ramona Flowers in the movie Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (2010). She has worked in different critically acclaimed independent films like Faults (2014), The Spectacular Now (2013), Smashed (2012), Alex of Venice (2014) and Swiss Army Man (2016).

EARLY LIFE

Mary Elizabeth Winstead was born on 28th November 1984 to Betty Lou and James Ronald Winstead in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She is the youngest of five children. Her family moved to Sandy, Utah, when she was five years old. There she attended Peruvian Park Elementary. She also studied dance at Joffrey Ballet and sang at a local choir. During her youth days, Mary Elizabeth Winstead aspired to be a ballerina but was forced to quit because of her height when she reached her teen years. It was then she turned her career towards acting. She was homeschooled most of her time in High School.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead started her acting career at the age of 12 from “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” starring Donny Osmond. After the role, she began making appearances in various other series. She also appeared in Touched by an Angel and Promised Land. Her first significant role was in the NBC soap opera Passions where she worked from 1999 to 2000. She also worked in the CBS drama, Wolf Lake. In 2004, she worked in the MTV film Monster Island.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead took a more substantial role of a high school senior in the Walt Disney film Sky High, a movie about teenage superheroes which was a decent success. She starred as the lead character, Wendy Christensen in 2006 American Supernatural Horror film Final Destination 3. The movie was a commercial hit but received mixed critics. She appeared in Booby; a 2006 movie based on the last hours of Robert F Kennedy. The movie’s script received few direct criticisms.

In 2007 Mary Elizabeth Winstead appeared in the movie Death Proof which received good reviews but underperformed in the commercial market. Her next appearance was in Live Free or Died Hard opposite Bruce Willis where she portrayed John McClane’s estranged daughter, Lucy. The movie grossed $383 Million and received the right critics.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead appeared as a lead role in the dance film; Make it Happen which performed poorly in both UK and US but was a success for Mary as she dreamed of becoming a dancer. Even though the critics did not appreciate the movie, her performance in the film was loved by everyone. She co-starred in the film Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, an adaption of comic-book Scott Pilgrim opposite Michael Serra. She took the role of Ramona Flowers, a delivery girl. She underwent hard training and performed her stunts. The movie released in late 2010 received right critics but performed poorly at the box office. She earned Teen Choice Award nomination for her role in the film.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead has also worked on other praiseworthy movies like Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Smashed, Faults, Alex of Venice and few more.

SINGING

She sang a cappella cover of The Shirelles Baby It’s You for her part in the 2007 film Death Proof. She formed a band Got a Girl with Dan the Automator and released their demo song You and Me on 21st May 2013. The group is still active.

From the starting of her carrier til now Winstead has been nominated in over 23 awards show out of which she has won 4 of them; Best Ensemble cast in Hollywood Film Festival for Bobby, Shining Star Award for Best Actress in Dallas International Film Festival for Smashed,  Outstanding Digital Daytime Drama Series in Daytime Emmy Award for The Beauty Inside and The Best Actress Award in Saturn Awards for 10 Cloverfield Lane.

PERSONAL LIFE / LOVE LIFE

She married Riley Stearns, an American filmmaker whom she met on an ocean cruise ship when she was 18. The couple were married until 2017. On May 2017 Mary Elizabeth Winstead announced her divorce. On October 2017 it was reported she was in a love life with Scottish actor Ewan McGregor.

She is not active on any social media but her fans have dedicated an Instagram page for the lady.
