La Palma transport us to 70s Brazil with their new single, “Sangue Latino”

Jurei mentiras e sigo sozinho
Assumo os pecados
Os ventos do norte não movem moinhos
E o que me resta é só um gemido
Minha vida, meus mortos, meus caminhos tortos
Meu sangue latino
Minh’alma cativa
Rompi tratados, traí os ritos
Quebrei a lança, lancei no espaço
Um grito, um desabafo
E o que me importa é não estar vencido
Minha vida, meus mortos, meus caminhos tortos
Meu sangue latino
Minh’alma cativa

I swore lies and I walk alone
I take the sins
North winds don’t move mills
And all I have left is just a moan
My life, my dead, my crooked ways
my latin blood
my captive soul
I broke treaties, I betrayed the rites
I broke the spear, launched it into space
A scream, a rant
And what matters to me is not to be defeated
My life, my dead, my crooked ways
my latin blood
my captive soul

Bathed in sunshine and nostalgic VHS footage, La Palma’s videoclip is the perfect accompaniment to “Sangue Latino,” a song originally recorded by the Brazilian group Secos e Molhados in 1973. The song has a special place for Chris Walker (one half of the musical duo La Palma), who listened to the band growing up with his Brazilian mother.

La Palma’s sun-drenched guitar, offset by confessional vocals and latin hand percussion is grounded by the iconic bass riff. The cover trades a beautiful feminine vocal for Lou Reed style confessionals. This brings a down-to-earth, reflective tone to the song, leaning back into the rhythm and giving the song an expansive quality that isn’t present in the original. La Palma draw on a mixture of organic sounds and fuse them with samples that create an otherworldly, dreamlike quality.
