Nigerian Lawmaker slumps and dies in South Africa


A Nigerian lawmaker under the Anambra State House of Assembly, identified as Honorable Nnamdi Okafor, has been confirmed dead after he slumped and died in a South African hotel where he had paid a holiday visit.

The deceased who represented Awka South State constituency 1, is said to be the majority leader of the State Assembly.

An announcement made by a source on a political WhatsApp group, had said;

The Majority Leader of Anambra State House of Assembly and Member representing Awka South Constituency 1, Hon. Nnamdi Okafor (Akajiugo Awka) collapsed in the early hours of today in a Hotel at Sandton City Johannesburg, South Africa and was confirmed dead hours later. Cause of his death is yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report. May His Gentle Soul Rest In Peace, Amen

The deceased who had his training as a pharmacist in the United States, is said to own a pharmaceutical company and runs a diagnostic services. However, his death has not been confirmed the leadership of the Anambra State House of Assembly.

It was also said that most of the members of the State House have been in South Africa for almost a month, since the assembly embarked on a short break.
