A father of four and hunter identified as Thomas Ajagu, is said to have shot his stepson dead in Toungo LGA of Adamawa State while they were engaged in a severe argument over his chosen course of business.

Reports had it that the accused had shot Ushahemba Ajagu (his stepson) on Sunday (24/08/2022) during the exchange of words over his trade of Tramadol, Indian Hemp, Local Gins, and also the construction of a tent.

But upon his appearance in court today (03/08/2022), the accused, Thomas, pleaded guilty to charges bordering on "Unlawful Possession of Weapon and Culpable Homicide", adding that he had killed the father of two, Ushahemba Ajagu, during self-defense.

In his words, he claimed to have raised the deceased as his own following the death of his own father, but they've been issues among themselves over his chosen way of life.

He said he tried to make him to desist from such lifestyle, adding that he also made numerous reports to the Toungo Police and also the Hunter's Union, over his involvement in the use and trade of illegal substances.

On the day of the incident, Thomas said he came back from the farm and met the deceased and his friends smoking hard substances as usual. But he said he restricted them from erecting a tent, where he, Ushahemba, intended to continue the trading of it. This angered him and he said he ran into the house and had a cutlass at hand upon his return.

Thomas confessed to accidentally firing a shot while he was trying to dodge an impact from his stepson's cutlass. The latter however, was confirmed dead after being rushed to a hospital.

The Magistrate Court presided by Chief Mohammed Buba, granted the request that the case be transferred to the DPP for advice, and adjourned the hearing on the case to Tuesday (23/08/2022)
