11 Memorable Moments From Breaking Bad Season 2

With a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes review aggregator, season 2 of Breaking Bad had us shook and hooked and deeply involved in the story of “how to get away with making meth and selling it for a huge profit when you’re a dying old man and your partner is a loser drug addict”. Supporting characters didn’t disappoint with their inputs of drama either.

You can read our favourite moments from Season 1 of Breaking Bad here.

So we compiled a list of our favourite scenes from the second season. And it goes like this:-

Skyler’s iconic rant and Hank’s priceless expression

When Hank visits Skyler to convince her to return Marie’s calls, she reveals to him that Marie is a shoplifter. Hank said she’s in therapy for her kleptomania and they should be supportive of Marie. Skyler explodes:

I need support. Me – the almost 40-year old pregnant woman with the surprise baby on the way and the husband with the lung cancer, who disappears for hours on end and I don’t know where he goes and he barely even speaks to me anymore… with the moody son who does the same thing… and the overdrawn checking account… and the lukewarm water heater that leaks rusty-looking crap… and is rotting out the floor of the utility closet and we can’t even afford to fix it… But OWWWHH! I see! Now, I’m supposed to go – Hank, please, what can I possibly do to further benefit my spoiled, kleptomaniac bitch sister who somehow always manages to be the centre of attention… coz god knows, SHE’S THE ONE, WITH THE REALLY IMPORTANT PROBLEMS….!!!!

Hector tries to save Tuco

When Heisenberg and Jesse poison Tuco’s food as he kidnaps them to take them to Mexico, the ever insidious Hector Salamanca, who can’t speak and is in a wheelchair, saves Tuco’s life using his little bell and knocking over his poisoned food, and getting Tuco to doubt Heisenberg and Jesse. One for the cartel, you’d think. But immediately after that Walter and Jesse manage to shoot Tuco and escape.

Naked Walter at the supermarket

Yet another iconic moment from the show when Walter decides to roam a supermarket naked, pretending to be in a fugue state so that he doesn’t have to explain his disappearance to Skyler and Hank and the fact that he and Jesse were kidnapped by Tuco Salamanca.

Hector and his bodily fluids

Back at the precinct where Jesse is being questioned by Hank for his involvement in Tuco’s death, Hector is called in to identify Jesse as the man who was in their house conducting business with Tuco.

Hector, instead of identifying Jesse, looks at Hank and lets one rip while defecating freely in his wheelchair…. Don’t know what to make of it, but it sure is grotesque and shocking.

Jesse steals his own RV

Jesse leaves his cook RV with Badger’s cousin to hide it from the DEA. After Jesse’s kicked out of his home and has nowhere to go and is down and out, he breaks into the scrapyard and spends the night in the RV. Next morning when Badger’s cousin asks for money and threatens to sell his lab equipment, Jesse leaves… only to sneak back in, break the RV out, break the gate, and drive away like a thug.

Jesse plays Peekaboo

When two junkies swindle Jesse’s dealer Skinny Pete, Heisenberg gets Jesse to track them down and recover their money and meth. At their pigsty of a home, he finds their little boy, unbathed, unfed and neglected. He feeds him and plays Peekaboo with him. After the stolen ATM machine falls on the face of the junkie dad and kills him, Jesse takes the money from it and runs. But before that, he takes care of the kid, wraps him in a blanket and leaves him outside on the porch so he doesn’t have to see his dead dad and can be found by the authorities. Jesse’s finest moment.

Tortuga in the desert

The severed head of El Paso DEA team’s informant Tortuga (Danny Trejo) mounted on a real live tortoise, left to roam around in the desert. Ghastly! Oh and the head explodes too, killing and decapitating DEA agents. Deadly!

Walter makes a battery

One more for science. When Walter and Jesse are out cooking in the RV, the battery dies. Walter, after being depressed for one straight day and coughing blood, makes a new battery out of coins, copper wire and sponges. The science is beyond Jesse but the scene continues to remain epic till today.

Heisenberg marks his territory

When Walter is at the hardware supply market, he sees a wannabe meth cook’s shopping cart and proceeds to instruct him on how to shop for the right materials. The guy gets scared and runs off. Then a switch is flipped in Walter’s head. He goes to the parking lot, all gangsta-like, finds the same guy and his partner near their van, walks up to him, stares him down Heisenberg-style and says – “STAY OFF MY TERRITORY”.

Saul Goodman shows tough love

The irreverent “criminal” lawyer is a voice of reason when one of Jesse’s drug dealers Combo is shot in a new territory. Saul tells a visibly upset Jesse that these things are known to happen and tells Walter and Jesse straight up they ‘suck at peddling meth’. Being generous and shrewd and all, for a sizable cut, he offers to hook them up with the region’s kingpin, through a guy who knows a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy.

Gustavo Fring enters the chat

Los Pollos Hermanos, the iconic fast food chain, a staple of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, makes an entrance in the second season, as does Gus. A perfectly polite and hardworking owner of the restaurant chain, an upstanding citizen of Albuquerque (and a secretly petrifying drug lord) Gus is managerial when he meets Walter and refuses to work with him as he sees that Jesse is late for the meeting and shows up high. He tells Walter as their meeting concludes, ‘never trust a drug addict’.

Honorable mentions

  • The floating red teddy bear in a black and white scene
  • The ballad of Heisenberg “Negro y Azul”
  • The legendary Better Call Saul ads

Makes you wonder! What does season 3 bring to the table? A whole lot more….
