Huguenot High School graduate and his father killed following a graduation ceremony at Altria Theater

After Huguenot High School’s Graduation Ceremony, tragedy struck on August 2, 2021, when a graduate and their parent were shot and killed outside Altria Theater.

Five other people were hurt in the incident, in addition to the two fatalities.

In a press conference, Richmond police said that around 5:15 p.m., security guards stationed inside the Altria Theater reported hearing gunfire coming from the outside.

Officers working the traffic detail later found numerous victims at the scene.

Seven people were shot in total, according to acting police chief Rick Edwards. Unfortunately, a graduate student aged 18 and their father, aged 36, died as a result of their wounds.

Currently in serious condition and facing a life-threatening injury is a 31-year-old male. In addition, Edwards confirmed that although four additional males, aged 14, 42, 55, and 58, had injuries, their health is anticipated to improve.

Six additional people suffered injuries relating to the shooting incident in addition to the people hit by bullets. Three of them reported having increased anxiousness and needed to be taken to the hospital, while two of them suffered injuries from falls.

A 9-year-old kid was also hit by a car as he ran away from the scene. Fortunately, it is anticipated that the child will get better.

Police have detained a 19-year-old guy they believe to be responsible for the shooting because they believe he knew at least one of the victims.
