Gameweek 6

The first of the London derbies ends at a draw. Crystal Palace invited Fulham over at Selhurst Park for the first game of the week. Crystal Palace were inspired with the return of Roy Hodgson and the defender Marc Guehi. Johnstone was sharp in his denial of chances by Pereira and Jiménez at the early exchanges, but a majority of the sharpest chances came from the hosts. Eberechi Eze shone as he squeezed past two defenders on the edge of the area and curled slightly wide of the post. Fulham almost went Ahead when De Cordova-Reid passed the Ball through to Jiménez but he failed to pick out Pereira who was waiting to tap it in. Pereira then hit the wall during a freekick with his effort. Fulham went on to defend during the final moments as Palace began to possess without any fruitful chances. Both sides pushed for a winner but none were able, it ended 0-0.

Ten men Wolves draw at Kenilworth Road to Luton Town. Wolves were in for a tough afternoon during a tumultuous first half. Luton Town began the half rather well with Wolves on the defensive. On ten minutes, Nelson Semedo cleared poorly seeing the ball fall to Morris on the edge of the box who turned past Mario Lemina and curled a fine effort, but it cannoned back off Jose Sa’s post. Bellegarde had at first robbed Tom Lockyer of possession, but when the defender had locked legs with the Wolves man, Bellegarde used too much force to free himself and was consequently deemed to have kicked out thus a red card was awarded. Wolves took just five minutes from the half to take the lead. Joao Gomes clipped a ball round the corner for Neto, who edged the defence with his quick feet, cut inside and rifled it into the roof of the net. Wolves would then concede a penalty after a Gomes handball inside the box, Morris converted to finish it 1-1.

Ten men City squash the threat of Nottingham Forest. Manchester City picked up three points for a sixth week when they encountered Nottingham at the Etihad Stadium. Rodrigo passed a threaded cross from near Nottingham’s half to a goal-bound Kyle Walker who dinked it back for Rodri whose powered shot was on target. Barely minutes later, City were ahead by two when Foden passed the ball to Mattheus Nunes who lifted a beautifully cross that Haaland headed with strength. Akanji was then booked with Pep Guardiola also getting showed a yellow card. The second half began dramatically when Rodrigo was shown a straight red card for violent conduct after colliding with Morgan Gibbs-White. They clashed and referee Anthony Taylor dismissed Rodri when he appeared to make contact with Gibbs-White’s throat, the decision upheld after a VAR check. The game then settled and would end 2-0 at the dead.

Toffees trounce the bees with a resurgent effort from Sean Dyche’s side. Everton faced Brentford in West London who were yet to lose at home since April. It took just six minutes for in-form Doucoure to volley his side infront. Brentford pushed fon equalizer while Everton simultaneously squandered chances to go two up, including another Doucoure chance. Brentford managed to get level before the half-hour mark when Mathias Jensen scored his third goal in four games. Everton would then steer the game midway through the second half with two goals in four minutes. First,Tarkowski netted in with a close-range header inside the far post from McNeil’s corner. Minutes later, it was Dominic Calvert-Lewin who sealed the host’s fate when he collected Garner’s through ball and squeezed it under Flekken to finish it 3-1.

A Bruno Fernandes goal finally gifts Manchester United three points. Jonny Evans nearly put the Red Devils ahead on his 200th appearance, but his goal was ruled out by VAR. The defender went on to assist Bruno Fernandes with a cross-field pass over the Burnley defence that the captain shot perfectly on the volley. This was a decisive goal that separated the team, 1-0.

The North London Derby ends at a draw. Arsenal welcomed their bitter rivals Tottenham on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium. Bukayo Saka put the Gunners ahead in the 26th minute when his shot bounced off Cristian Romero into his own net. The game was tense before the break when Tottenham pushed for a way in, the new combination of Son and Maddison worked splendidly again when the latter teed the former who sliced the ball in past Raya. On the 55th minute, a corner routine by Arsenal saw the ball meet Romero’s hand in the box. After a VAR review determined it a handball, Saka stepped up to the spot and took the penalty comfortably. Just a minute later, the combo worked their magic again when Havertz was dispossessed when holding the ball (déjà vu) and Maddison set Son for his brace. The game continued with the faceoff and Arsenal looked like they would grab a winner but the heroics of Vicario halted the possibility of points being dropped. 2-2 was the final score.

Seagulls bite into the Cherries hard through substitute Kaoru Mitoma. The game saw Bournemouth drop back as Brighton pushed forward to attempt to get something. Their goalkeeper Verbruggen had advanced forward and held the ball too long at the 25th minute when Ryan Christie blocked his pass and found Solanke who scored easily. Brighton pushed and pushed and we’re blessed when Gilmour’s cross hit Kerkez’s head and flew past Neto. Ansu Fati and Mitoma came on in the second half and 15 seconds from the start worked together for Brighton’s second goal. Dahoud passed cleverly to Mitoma who slid the ball past Neto with a smooth flick. Later on, Carlos Baleba won a 50-50 with Christie; found Gilmour who waited for Estupiñan to overlap; Estupiñan crossed from the left which unmarked Mitoma glanced home. The game ended 3-1.

Villa ease past the ten men of Chelsea. The game saw goalkeeper heroics keep the two sides level in their exchanges. Nicholas Jackson had a chance but failed to put his team ahead. Malo Gusto was handed a red card after VAR overturned the yellow he had gotten for his violent tackle on Digné. This was instrumental to Aston Villa’s attack as they took advantage and Ollie Watkins put his side ahead, his goal enough to separate the two sides.

Liverpool crush Westham’s hopes of picking points from the Reds. Westham met Liverpool at Anfield and were confident in their play. However, Salah put The Reds ahead in the 16th minute when he converted a penalty after he had been tripped by Aguerd in the box. Jarrod Bowen squared things before half-time when he scored a flying header that went in off the post. Darwin Nunez increased the lead by smoothly dinking a Mac Allister floated pass into the net on the volley. Towards the game’s end, Diogo Jota was subbed and he repayef the gesture by knocking in Van Dijk’s knockdown from the corner.

Sheffield gutted by Newcastle at home in the most embarrassing defeats of the season. Bramall Lane was the venue for Sunday’s thrashing of the Blades which saw eight different goal scorers score for a single team in the same game, a record in the Premier League. The Magpies took the lead on the 21st minute when Gordon seemingly handled the ball before teeing up Longstaff who fired home. Nearly seven minutes later, Dan Burn headed home at the back post from a nice delivery from in-form Trippier. After the referee deemed Robinson’s tackle on Longstaff to be too strong, Trippier added another assist as Botman rose unmarked and headed home the third goal. At the start of the second half, things got worse. Callum Wilson whose two first half chances had been kept out finally headed home Trippier cross. Barely minutes later, Gordon curled home his team’s fifth before Almiron got on the scoresheet from a Guimarães assist. Sheffield woes were still on when Guimarães netted after a fortunate ricochet despite Souza and Traoré trying to challenge for the ball. Slimane and Egan were booked late on before Isak completed the scoring by taking full advantage of the misplaced header by Tom Davies. The game ended 8-0.
