Gameweek 5

~Gunners grab a narrow win at the expense of the Toffees. Arsenal travelled to Everton. At the 18th minute, Martinelli thought he had scored for his team, but was judged to have been offside. Barely two minutes, he suffered an injury and was replaced at the 20th minute. On the 31st minute, Doucoure lobbed past Rice, rushed on goal and stumbled in the box over Saliba’s foot, but it was not a penalty. Pickford was all saves as Odegaard grew frustrated with his shots being pushed away. Danjuma almost put his side up with a dipping shot from the edge of the box. Arsenal’s insistence on short corner short corner routines paid off when Saka was set running by Odegaard and he cut it back to Trossard who scored it on his first touch, the ball hitting the post and into the net. Arsenal should have made it two when they countered a blunder by Everton at the back to see a 3 versus 2 situation but Odegaard’s shot was punched away by Pickford before Mykolenko slid in superbly to deny Rice’s shot from creeping past.

~Another goalless display at the bridge. Jackson rattled the post early on. He then played a one-two with Mudryk who passed a half chance to Gallagher but he put it over the bar upon getting little contact. Sanchez saved effort after effort from Bournemouth, first a close range from Django and then a powered shot. Sterling bought some of Chelsea’s brightest chances during the first half but they didn’t amount to much. Gallagher’s shot was saved by Neto as well. During the second half, Sterling’s freekick rattled the crossbar and Colwill put it back of the rebounce but was judged to be offside. Another chance saw the ball ping-pong between players and the Bournemouth keeper before being cleared by a Bournemouth player. Billing’s freekick as well as Solanke’s shot were Bournemouth’s closest chances but weren’t good enough to set the two sides apart. Palmer hit a cut-in cross nicely but it was kept out by Neto as well, the game ended 0-0.

The Reds tear apart Wolves. Liverpool travelled to Wolves: the home side opened the score sheet when Pedro Neto trickled past three defenders with ease before hitting his grass-cutting cross across goal to an awaiting Hwang Hee Chan who scored through Allison’s feet. Neto beautifully lifted a cross towards Matteus Cunha but he failed to head it in. Jose Sá came alive to deny Salah and Szoboszlai in quick succession. Salah’s shot in the second half was tapped in by Gakpo to level things. Robertson caught the ball at the halfway when it had been fired away and he ran with it before releasing Salah towards the edge of the box and he returned it to the rushing Robertson who scored. Salah would have had a hat-trick of assists when he teed up Harvey Elliott outside the box who rifled it, it unfortunately hit Bueno and went past the Wolves goalkeeper to make it 3-1, the final score.

Tottenham manage the latest comeback in Premier League History. Pape Sarr continued his impressive showing with two early attempts that were decent. Bissouma danced his way into the box but his shot tame. Vicario kept out a powered shot by Macateen. Romero teed up Maddison who failed to score from range, his shot too tame to challenge the keeper. Udogie played outwards then passed to Solomon who scampered past a litany of defenders before shooting towards the far post but the keeper saved it. Solomon again passed it to Maddison whose efforts missed the goal  in the second half, Sheffield went ahead through Hamer’s shot from a long throwing. Brennan Johnson thought he had  equalized when he caught a cross from the halfway line before placing past the keeper but was offside. Foderingham kept out Kulusevski after a nice piece of one-two action with Robinson. Richarlison finally scored his first premier league goal in a Tottenham jersey by heading in Perišić’s delivery. He then turned provider for Kulusevski late on to seal the comeback. Drama was still in the offing as Mcburnie pulled back his mark to be rewarded a second yellow, thus a red card.

Emery’s troops cut down Crystal Palace at home decisively. Diaby scored for Villa from an offside position. At the 47th minute, Crystal Palace went ahead when Mateta passed the ball to Edouard who put it in comfortably. Ward should have made it two when Andersen assisted him by head for an easy head-in but missed. Villa then equalized late on when Digné assisted Duran at the 87th minute and he scored on the volley. Aston Villa were then awarded a penalty when Watkins was brought down in the box so Douglas Luiz scored at the 90+8. The game was sealed when Diaby assisted Bailey at 90+11 to end it Aston Villa 3- Crystal Palace 1.

The Red Devils beaten, battered and bruised at home by the Seagulls. Hojlund almost got on the score sheet first when he missed Rashford’s cross. Adingra went on to assist former Manchester United player Danny Welbeck, his fifth time scoring them. Rashford’s flurry of chances either hit the crossbar or in one instance he assisted Hojlund after crossing the ball after it had gone outside. Gross cut the defense smoothly before placing the ball past Onana.  Lamptey who had assisted Gross then in the same fashion assisted João Pedro who placed the ball way past Onana’s diving palms, Hannibal received Martinez’s pass which he let settle then shot on goal, 3-1 the final score.

Fulham narrowly beat Luton Town. Luton were bright early in their match with chance after chance, Fulham also squandered their chances. Fulham broke the deadlock when Brazilian duo of Wiliam and Vinicius turned provider and scorer consecutively to end it 1-0. Willian failed to score.

Newcastle beat the Bees at home ahead of their Champions League .Bruno Guimares tapped the ball towards goal with his head during a corner but was kept out by Flekken before being cleared off the line. Newcastle pushed on looking for a goal in both halves until Gordon was finally brought down by the goalie. Wilson took the penalty which was the only goal of the game.

Nottingham and Burnley draw with one goal apiece. Elanga continues to shine, he picked Odoi who passed to Awoniyi whose effort was blocked. Awoniyi then tried to assist Odoi but his chance was saved by Trafford. Koleosho ran down the left and cut the ball in. Foster touched it slightly but Amdouni hit it with power to make it 1-0. Awoniyi would then turned provider by feeding Odoi who curled one to the top right from edge of the box on his debut. Foster was then sent out for for Burnley but managed to keep it drawn.

Champions of Europe beat “champions of Europe”. Manchester City met Westham at the London Stadium. Bowen lifted a cross from the right ride that found James Ward-Prowse. Early in the second half, Jeremy Doku showed his class as he rushed down the left defenders on his way and the goalkeeper into the far post. Julian Alvarez then lobbed his cross chipped it over Areola who was rushing to pick it. Bernardo then turned provider when he passed the ball past a glancing defense into the feet of Haaland who scored. 3-1 is how matters ended.
