Oscars Award Predictions Of Best Picture 2024 – Could Sean Durkin’s ‘The Iron Claw’ Wrestle This Year’s Competition?

The Variety Awards Circuit area is the hub for all award-related news and information throughout the year. It includes, among other things, senior awards editor Clayton Davis’s official predictions for the upcoming Tony, Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Awards ceremonies. The standings in the race are depicted on the prediction pages; personal preferences for any particular competitor are not included. As numerous official (and unofficial) surveys have shown, competitions are dynamic and liable to shift in response to news and events. On Thursdays, predictions are updated.

Weekly Commentary (12th October 2023 Update): The AMPTP’s suspension of the SAG-AFTRA discussions makes the campaigning for the upcoming awards season more gloomier.
The entertainment sector has a history of labor issues, and since July, one of the most important unions that represents its workers has been striking in an effort to improve the terms and conditions for its individual members. The strikes have slowed down the development of significant studio productions and may completely derail the awards season. The fact that independent feature films can support and champion their artists through temporary agreements is a silver lining (if you are a “glass half-full” kind of person).

Without the performers, the authors and directors are left to drive their productions forward with no clear finish in sight. What effect will that have on the chances of these books? The winners might be production companies with contracts for the majority of their films, like A24 and Neon.

This week saw the release of the first trailer for “The Iron Claw,” an upcoming sports biopic from A24 starring Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White. The movie’s omission from the festival circuit generated the misleading impression that it didn’t have “the goods,” even though the writer and director had just finished editing the movie. The tragic drama about the Von Erich wrestling dynasty, on the other hand, could be a significant spoiler on the circuit, according to two individuals who watched early cuts of the movie.

Despite the fact that Lionsgate isn’t a member of the AMPTP, there is no confirmation or evidence that any of the filmmakers have requested agreements for their films, including the critically acclaimed “Are You There God? With aspiring supporting actress Rachel McAdams, Kelly Fremon Craig’s “It’s Me, Margaret” was released. Its entry for the comedy categories of the Golden Globes was exclusively made public by Variety.

The general categories have a submission deadline of November 18, 2023. Voting for the preliminary shortlist will start on December 18 with results being made public on December 21. Jan. 11–16, 2024, will be the voting period, and Jan. 23, 2024, will see the formal announcement of the nominees.

The 96th Academy Awards will take place on March 10th.
