Karolos Trikolidis was a conductor born in Greece and raised in Austria. He attended the universities of Vienna and Salzburg to study music. Günter Pichler taught him violin, Alfred Uhl and Cesar Bresgen taught him composition, Richard Hochrainer taught him percussion, and Hans Swarowsky and Miltiades Caridis taught him conducting. He attended Franco Ferrara’s, Pierre Boulez’s, and Herbert von Karajan’s yearly masterclasses as an enthusiastic participant. He got conducting instruction from composer and conductor Bruno Maderna, along with Swarowsky and Caridis. He earned first honors in international conducting contests at Besançon, Florence, and Budapest in 1970, 1971, and 1977, respectively. He performed in the Dresden, Paris, Budapest, Aix-en-Provence, Besançon, Athens, Vienna “Music Summer,” and Thessaloniki’s “Dimitria festival.”
