Bastiaan Johannis “Bas” Van Der Vlies was a Dutch politician and teacher who was a member of the Reformed Political Party (SGP). From June 10, 1981, to June 17, 2010, he served as a Member of Parliament. From May 22, 1986, to May 10, 2010, he served as both Parliamentary Leader and Leader of the Reformed Political Party. Van der Vlies graduated from Delft University of Technology with a degree in hydraulic engineering. Before becoming a politician, he worked as a math teacher.
