Figure Oil Painting – How to Paint a Female Figure with Tattoo p2 – Artist Knut Andre Vikshåland

In this oil painting lesson I show you how to Oil paint a female figure with a tattoo from rough sketch all the way to the finished oil painting. I show you how to do thick brushwork in a more Impressionist way how to build skin tones from the beginning . I do not use charcoal or do a oil paint block , I start straight on the canvas and from a point I just let it evolve in to a painting. I do start with the face and I also start on a canvas that I have toned with turpentine and raw umber , I do let it dry before painting so the raw umber do not mix with the clear oil colors in the sketching process .In this figure study I play some documentary about famous artists and painter that I find most interesting to learn to paint from . Rembrandt is by far the greatest painter in my view
The painting is done from art photo done with tungsten 6/7 Dias film.
All my paintings is done freehand and with mainly old Holland paint

I am not a conceptual artist and my driving force for doing paintings is the personal challenge painting figurative gives me. As a painter with Artists like Rembrandt Turner Leonardo da Vinci and Jan Vermeer as my objective standard I will always have to push myself to get better In painting is where it get personal for me and where I reflect in results how successfully I have used my time and in the end my short existence in this infinite universe and time.
