Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged – New Environments, Vehicles, Abilities, Skill System, and Customization

A new trailer for Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged has been released, and this one provides much more insight into many of the new features promised in the first trailer announcement. In this article, we will talk about the new information we have about these features, and let you know our thoughts on how this will affect the overall gameplay.

Let’s get started by talking about the 5 new Environments.

Tracks and Environments

One of the features promised in Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged was the new environments and terrain that would have an effect on how your vehicle handles during a race. In the trailer, we don’t really see much of the vehicles being affected, but we may see more as we get closer to release.

There are 5 environments in all, and we get to see all of them in the trailer. They are Arcade, Backyard, Mini Golf Course, Museum, and Gas Station. Most of the tracks will have you racing indoors, in the open air, or in a combination of both settings. There is also a track room for you to design your own custom tracks. Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 is really emphasizing how dynamic each track will feel, so you’ll want to choose your vehicle very carefully if you hope to succeed in this game.

Vehicles

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 will have around 130 vehicles from the Hot Wheels universe, and this includes new additions like ATVs and Motorcycles. The vehicles you can choose will have their unique style and characteristics based on the category that it belongs to. There are a total of 6 categories in all, and they are Rocket, Balanced, Swift, Drifter, Heavy-Duty, and Off-Road.

Each vehicle category has its pros and cons, and a few of my favorites are Rocket which is the type of vehicle you should choose if you’d like to prioritize speed and have an edge during straightaways. Drifter is for those of you that prefer to master corners and generate a lot of boosts. Heavy-Duty are the colossal vehicles that want to own the track, and Balanced is for those of you that want a nice blend of speed and maneuverability.

I do plan on playing around with each vehicle to figure out which one suits my playstyle the best.

Abilities

One of the most interesting aspects of Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 for me is the abilities. Boost we know is making a return, but along with it comes Jump, Double Jump, and Lateral Dash. These new abilities have promised to add far greater depth to the game and will make things more interesting.

You will power these new abilities with the energy you gain from using boost. Jump and Double Jump can be used even in mid-air, to help you clear a jump or even access previously unreachable sections of track or to discover new shortcuts. I do plan on mastering this because the idea of creating my shortcuts or accessing unreachable parts of the track is very exciting.

The Lateral Dash will allow you to avoid obstacles on the track by swiftly dodging from left to right. You can even use this ability to force opponents off the track or strategically move out of the way of the incoming dash. This in my opinion is pretty cool, and I can’t wait to see how difficult this will be to master in the game.

Skill System

Along with all of these new abilities is the addition of a skill system and skill tree. You will earn skill points by playing the game and can use them to improve different aspects of your vehicle such as the boost, handling, and your ability to navigate obstacles.

The skill system will give me more of a reason to continue playing this game, as I’ll want to race more to fully max out my favorite vehicles and improve upon them over time.

Customization

Lastly, we’ll share a few details about the customization options you’ll have in Hot Wheels Unleased 2: Turbocharged. You’ll have an improved Livery editor that will allow you to create unique designs for each of your Hot Wheels cars to help you stand out from the other drivers.

There is also a sticker editor which will allow you to create, save, and share specific patterns and shapes. All of these customization options combined will help make the vehicles feel uniquely yours, and along with the upgrade options I’ve mentioned earlier this should help to prevent the game from becoming stale over time.

Final Thoughts

All of these new features coming to Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged seem extremely promising. My only concern here is the degree of difficulty the new abilities may have. My thoughts here are how difficult it will be to master these abilities, and if these additions will create a hefty skill gap. Hopefully, I’m wrong, and these new additions will be easy to master so any player can jump in with their friends and have a good time.

Now it’s time to hear from our readers. How do you feel about the new additions to Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged? Are you excited about this game’s release? Let me know by leaving a comment below
