5 Reasons Solo Leveling Is Better Than One Piece

5 Reasons Solo Leveling Is Better Than One Piece: In the Anime community, claiming a newly released anime is better than the OG One Piece, is a surefire way to get cancelled by the fans. But still, there are some explanations for why some fans might believe that Solo Leveling is actually better at capturing attention than One Piece.

Right off the bat, it is important to remember that these two are as different as day and night. One is a manga, another one is a Webtoon, one is a Shounen adventure about a pirate looking for a treasure, and the other is an action fantasy about a guy levelling up to become the strongest hunter.

While the differences are glaring, and an outright comparison is not justified, Solo Leveling is better at appealing to the masses for several reasons. Here are some popular ones to support this claim,

5 Reasons Solo Leveling Is Better Than One Piece

Solo Leveling Has A Better Pacing

One can hardly deny that the Pacing of Solo Leveling is just perfect for everyone to enjoy it. It is neither too fast like the webtoon nor too slow to lose anyone’s attention. Even producer Furuhashi pointed out how they had to add “extra meat” to the anime to make it a worthwhile adaptation.

One Piece, on the other hand, has an uneven and unpredictable pacing, which even feels rough to many. The pacing becomes notoriously slow after the time skip with Fishman Island.

Main Character Differences

In Solo Leveling, we witness the journey of a weak and wimpy young man turning into a ruthless hunter. Jin Woo goes through some pretty depressing events, which bring noticeable psychological changes in him, contributing to his character growth.

Luffy, who although has a very likeable personality, still comes off as a one-dimensional stalk-shounen protagonist. He does go through some character developments, but who would not after 1000 episodes?

One Piece Is Not An Instant Hit

One Piece takes time to be likeable, and every fan has their own theory of episodes, after which the anime might turn interesting. Some claim the Arlong Park arc (Episodes 31-44) is when the real deal starts, while others insist it gets good during the Alabasta arc (Episodes 92–130).

Solo Leveling is good from the very first episode. The shock factor in episode 1 gets you hooked and makes you wonder about the fate of the characters. Plus, almost every episode ends on a nasty cliffhanger, making you pine for the next episode even more.

Solo Leveling Has Better Animation

One Piece started way back in 1999, and it is natural that the animation is not as good in the older episodes as in the newer ones. Toei Animation, its studio, has done a respectable job over the years, making the fans fall in love with the show with their work.

But when we compare that animation with Solo Leveling, which is more visually stunning than even some newer shows, the winner is quite clear. A-1 Pictures, Solo Leveling‘s studio, really took their sweet time to produce one of the best-animated series of this year.

Solo Leveling Has An Ending

Even though Solo Leveling has just started, with a potential 2nd season already in talks, one does expect its ending. One Piece fans, on the other hand, still hope for a conclusion because, unlike Solo Leveling, the source material itself is still ongoing.

There have also been debates on the potential payoff of continuing such a long anime only to find out about a hidden treasure. The fact that there are conflicting ideas about the nature and the location of the treasure does not help the case much.

One Piece is definitely one of the best shows ever made. It is part of the Big 3 and also one of the reasons behind the growth of today’s global anime community. But, Solo Leveling is also becoming a massive phenomenon, and while One Piece‘s impact is bigger, Solo Leveling is also proving it’s a force to be reckoned with.
