Valentine’s Day 2024: Uncovering The Best Underrated Romance Manga

Underrated Romance Manga: Romance mangas are pretty popular, so it is only natural that many of us have read most of them. But there are times when we leave some great picks out because of their apparent lack of fame.

They carry amazing storylines and unforgettable characters, but sadly, they remain invisible as hidden gems. So, to keep the romantic mood alive, I will be listing some personal favorites, which I believe are the best Underrated Romance Manga you must read with your beloved. I have kept manga, which still does not have an anime adaptation yet.

Uncovering The Best Underrated Romance Manga

Taiyou no Ie

This is one of my all-time favorites that is just too good for it to remain unappreciated. It will make you sad for the characters and feel angst about their situation.

You will relate to Mao Motomiya, specifically if growing up, you felt no one understood you or ignored you. She is a headstrong girl who pretends to be tough and self-sufficient when in reality she just craves love.

There was once a time when she was happy, spending time with the family next door, but that ended due to unfortunate circumstances. However, many days later, she stumbles upon the oldest son of that happy family, and he changes her life forever.

Raise wa Tanin ga Ii

This one is definitely a bit different than all the other picks on this list. If a Yakuza romance that comes with a Strong Female Lead and an unconventional male lead sparks your interest, read this ASAP.

It literally starts as enemies to lovers but with a twist. Yoshino is the beloved granddaughter of a Yakuza family sent to Tokyo to marry another into another Yakuza family.

But what she did not expect is to find a fiance who is very perfect but is also not particularly right in the head. Now, she must survive on her own, all the while dealing with constant threats to her life.

Reimei no Arcana

This one is another great read, and you should check this out if you have not already. Packed with action and drama, this story follows a world where humans live alongside mutants who are humans but with some animal features.

But these mutants are hated and discriminated against, while humans with jet-black hair are celebrated. In such a setting, Princess Nakaba, who carries fiery red hair, a feature associated with mutants, has been looked down upon all her life.

But her misery doubles when she is sent to an enemy nation for marriage. If you want political intrigue, a strong female lead, and slow-burn romance, read this.

Usemono Yado

This manga is very close to my heart and hence, I really want more people to enjoy it. It has a very unique premise that teaches us about the value of life and our loved ones.

The story revolves around a peculiar inn that is known for housing lost objects that hold significant memories for their owners. And the one who runs this inn is a grumpy landlady with a child-like appearance. She hates when disturbed and also abhors Matsuura, the man who brings her guests.

Get ready to be charmed, crushed, and mesmerized by this beautiful story that only has a few chapters. The romance here enters late, but, it is one of the best and saddest portrayals ever.

Mousou Telepathy

If you like slapstick comedy with a bit of ecchi on the side, this is for you. Who does not want the power to read other’s thoughts? Right? Wrong, you can not control what you will hear, nor can you stop others’ voices. It is absolute hell, just like what Ayako Nakano feels every day.

But everything changes when she meets the serious and calm Hayato Toda, who harbors nothing but nasty thoughts about her. This anime is absolutely hilarious, with very interesting characters and their weird antics. Hayato is definitely the most unusual lad, as his thoughts are guaranteed to make you roll on the floor laughing.

Cat Street

You must have heard of Hana Yori Dango, and this here is a manga written by the same author. Here, she talks about a girl called Keito, who struggles with past trauma and is finding her place in the world.

It is in El Liston, a school for students with social issues, that she gets out of her comfort zone and grows as a person. And, while not the main focus, Cat Street does feature a slow-burn romance subplot, which adds another layer to the story.

You should definitely check this out for its relatable characters, heartwarming story, and exploration of social problems.

Meido no Koi wa Enma Shidai!

If you enjoy your run-of-the-mill rom-com shoujo, chances are you will love this one as well. To enjoy this, you do not have to think of intricate plot points and dive deep into character analysis. Just relax and enjoy the antics of the great King of Hell and his newly appointed aide, Tomari.

Getting the new job presented a great opportunity for climbing the corporate ladder to our heroine. But sadly, the entire Enma hall struggles with extra and unfinished work as their boss neglects his duties and runs off often.

Tomari thought she could finally have peace, only to face more trouble than ever.
