The Killing Vote Episode 9 Recap

The episode starts with Chae Do-hee announcing on the news channel how they will be providing justice to people henceforth to stand by the Gaetal. She states that anyone can post their story/need in the open forum and the post with many likes will be assisted. Meanwhile, Jin-wook tries to escape with a hostage but gets shot by one of the police. At the same time, Hyun learns through Mu-chan that the real Gaetal is none other than Seok-joo. Right then, a van crashes inside the police agency through which Seok-joo escapes.

Hyun immediately alerts Jo-dan and he tracks the vehicle. Before Mu-chan and Hyun can get Seok-joo, he tricks them and escapes with a bike. Seok-joo reminisces about his prison life, the letters he received, and the sad moments he had with his son Ji-hoon. Jin-wook gets admitted to the hospital and he remains unconscious. The police commissioner pressures Mu-chan and Hyun to grab hold of Seok-joo.

Mu-chan asks Jin-soo’s assistance to back him up while he’s gone to search for Seok-joo not knowing that he is a part of the Gaetal team as well. That night, Ji-hoon, his grandmother Hye-jin, and another Gaetal meet up at their bunk to find files that Min-soo stole. Later, Ji-hoon goes to meet Hyun’s sister Min. When they both return, he notices Seok-joo’s shadow and rushes. He hugs his father.

At home, Min discusses Ji-hoon lying about his home and his sudden weird behavior toward Hyun. Hyun, unaware that he is a part of the Gaetal and is the adopted son of Seok-joo, lets the news go. The Killing Votes keeps increasing for Mu-chan, and Min-soo finds ecstasy in it. He returns to school where he spends his day as a regular teacher. Somehow, Ji-hoon gets hold of Min-soo’s data.

Ji-young manipulates the viewers’ story on the forum board to increase views, pissing Do-hee. Do-hee seeks Mu-chan for help and he reveals Seok-joo’s escape to her so he can use it as a clickbait. The news regarding Seok-joo’s escape leaks and his posters get shared around. Hyun finds and informs Mu-chan of the weird coincidence of how Ji-hoon’s grandmother Yang Hye-jin is the medical doctor of Seok-joo and Ji-hoon is a student of Min-soo. This information bugs Mu-chan.

That evening, Mu-chan visits Yang Hye-jin’s place and notices someone upstairs who is none other than Seok-joo. He tries to check it but Seok-joo hides well. Mu-chan leaves her house with suspicion. Meanwhile, Seok-joo passes a hint to another Gaetal, assigned to deliver the paper to Hyun. Jo-dan previously joined a Gaetal group where mostly high schoolers are a part. To find the lead, he and Hyun disguise themselves as students only to find Min’s friend at the spot. They learn that she isn’t the real Gaetal #1 but came here on their behalf. She hands Hyun the piece of paper that reads, “See You When The Weather Is Nice.”

Seok-joo affirms Ji-hoon that Hyun will crack the code and as he expected, Hyun realises that the paper meant about the Weather App on the mobile phone. The next day when Do-hee broadcasts about their first case regarding a building scam, the cops come in and reveal the truth. Hyun alerts the people about how each of us who downloaded the Weather App has two apps downloaded. It is revealed that the second app is how the Gaetal accesses personal details. The people immediately delete the app.

This makes Min-soo extremely angry and Jin-young calms him down and affirms she will carry out the mission. During an argument, Do-hee reveals that Mu-chan leaked about Seok-joo’s escape. Hyun argues with Mu-chan for using her as the pawn even if his plans were for good. Afterward, Gaetal (assumably Min-soo) comes online and addresses the users that irrespective of the broadcast, they will execute the scammer. The Gaetals then kill the guy who scammed people which ultimately led them to unalive themselves.

The following day, Mu-chan and other cops check the deceased body of the scammer. At the same time, Jo-dan and Hyun visit Min-soo’s house to find evidence. She somehow enters a secret room and tries to get his computer data. Unfortunately, the secret door closes, locking Hyun inside the room. Since Jo-dan previously left the house to assist her from another place, he also becomes helpless. Just when she tries to find a way out, she notices a file on Min-soo’s computer titled “Fun File.”

When she opens it she looks at the video of a small child begging for help. Min-soo arrives at his home and finds the lights on in his room from outside the building. It is understood that Min-soo has recorded the cries of the Seok-joo’s child whom he abducted and killed.

The Killing Vote Episode 9 Review

The 9th episode provides multiple revelations and answers. We see that Min-soo is a big mastermind whom Jin-young backs. Hyun is still unaware of her sister Min’s friendship with Ji-hoon. Though he might not be a threat, her being unaware of who her sister is dealing with might put tension later on. Mu-chan’s reputation is being bashed by the internet but still, he is persistent in finding Seok-joo. Meanwhile, Seok-joo is determined to grab hold of Min-soo and deal with him once and for all.

Jo-dan and Hyun’s duo is fantastic and a joy to watch. They both helping each other and finding clues seems highly appreciatable. On the other side, Ji-hoon is happy to see his father Seok-joo after years. I wish Seok-joo doesn’t get shot dead or so in the end because Ji-hoon deserves some love from the man he has looked upon. Min-soo is the main villain and justice will be provided for Seok-joo.

The Killing Vote will air every week on SBS in Korea as well as on Amazon Prime Video in select regions.
