Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 13 Review: A Perfectly Piercing Battle That Will Leave You Speechless!

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 13 Review: Choso vs Yuji, the most anticipated one-on-one battle between the two is finally showcased in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 13. The thirteenth episode titled “Red Scale” of the anime series premiered on October 19, 2023. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 (呪術廻戦 or Sorcery Fight) is directed by Sunghoo Park, the show is animated under MAPPA Studio. With Sayaka Koiso and Tadashi Hiramatsu designing the characters, Yoshimasa Terui is the sole composer of the series. Tatsuya Kitani performed the opening theme, Where Our Blue Is (青のすみか), while Soushi Sakiyama performed the ending theme, Light (燈).

The anime is scheduled for two cours, the first five episodes adapted the manga’s Hidden Inventory arc, and the upcoming eighteen other episodes will showcase the Shibuya arc. Licensed under Crunchyroll, the episodes will be available with English subtitles, and the dubbed version will be released later on.

Based on the manga series of the same name by Gege Akutami, the story follows high school student Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organization of Jujutsu Sorcerers in order to kill a powerful Curse named Ryomen Sukuna, of whom Yuji becomes the host. However, the new season will consist of various aspects of the story which the audience has been wondering about. Each episode has a runtime of 20-25 minutes.

Peak episode after peak episode, MAPPA has been consistent with its craft. The entirety of the new episode is dedicated to the Choso vs Yuji battle sequence that has been anticipated among fans since the beginning of the series. With this episode alone, Jujutsu Kiasen takes the crown for one of the best ongoing shonen animes in the community.

Starting from the direction of the episode to the plot development, one will not be able to take their eyes off the screen. Choso’s mysterious blood manipulation technique takes life on screen wonderfully, almost seems like a beautiful painting with all the splashes except it is some deadly paint. Portraying from paper to screen as accurately as possible and enhancing it with subtle changes, the moments will go down in history as one of the best animated anime fight sequences.

Moreover, the studio brought Gege’s vision to life by including all the major aspects and blatant references he used in the manga. Not just the animation but the story was explained in an extremely detailed manner. Some of the techniques can often be confusing, however, by including the narration, the audience is left with no doubt whatsoever and can keep up with the plot very easily.

However, the episode does not contain any major plot points. It specifically focuses on the battle between the two characters and the motives behind their actions. It is important to point out that it is not a reckless fight but provides a point of view from both characters before each punch they take against the other. But at certain times the element of surprise is also included abundantly.

The character design for Choso is another aspect of the episode that stands out from the rest. The complexity of his character can be seen both physically and mentally. Additionally, each and every expression and dialogue is beautifully displayed which enhances the story telling process further.
