Upload Season 3 Review: The third season of the futuristic show that everyone loves is finally here and, we are ready for it! The show is created by Greg Daniels, who we know for the much popular The Office US, Parks and Recreation, Netflix’s Space Force and more. Serving as the executive producer alongside Howard Klein, Daniels’ dystopian world has only gotten better this time. Produced by Deedle-Dee Productions, 3 Arts Entertainment, Reunion Pacific Entertainment, Baral-Waley Productions and Amazon Studios, the series runs on a single-camera set-up and, has Joseph Stephens roped in as the composer.

Robbie Amell is headlining the show as Nathan Brown. Alongside him, we have Andy Allo as Nora, Allegra Edwards as Ingrid, Kevin Bigley as Luke and Owen Daniels as the A.I. Guy returning this season. There is also Zainab Johnson as Aleesha, Andrea Rosen as Lucy, Josh Banday as Ivan, Barclay Hope as Oliver Kannerman, and William B. Davis as David Choak. Jeanine Mason has joined the cast for Season 3 as a Horizen executive named Karina. There are eight episodes in this season, each approximately 40 to 60 minutes long.

The last time we visited Lakeview, we saw Nathan downloaded to the real world, resulting in him having a nosebleed- meaning something is clearly going to go wrong soon. Meanwhile, when Horizon employee Tinsley notices that Nathan is missing in Lakeview, she restores his backup copy in the computerized world. This has resulted in two Nathans!

Upload Season 3 picks us up a beat from where we had left off. No significant time has seemingly passed as the mission to stop Freeyond is still in motion and Nathan is definitely having physiological issues in the real world, making us constantly think (much like Nora) if his head is going to burst any moment like the last guy who was downloaded.

Nora and Nathan have made it official- doing all the gooey things and establishing a romantic relationship. This forms a major part of Upload Season 3 as Nathan and Nora try to navigate through their relationship and, it is apparent that they might not just be a match made in heaven. There is also the underlying theme of stopping Freeyond and the capitalistic desires of the rich and powerful as a theme that keeps surfacing more so in this particular season.

Meanwhile, having a second Nathan is clearly a win for Ingrid, who on discovering that there is a ‘Nathan Clone’ now stops her self-love journey and falls right back into making sure she sustains a relationship with this one. But, not everything turns out to be pretty in this paradise either with the progress of the season. The trouble in paradise aspect only gets enhanced with AI complications that leave Lakeview handicapped.

Upload Season 3 is a mixed bag of themes that are ambitious but, do nothing by the end. The funny bits work brilliantly well but, the serious bits lack the depth that can be consumed in this show. In short, the kind of balance that season one offered- mixing heavy and light themes, this season fails to do it appropriately. Not that it does not try but, the soft landing aspect is long gone; possibly by the end of season two.

There are also acting flaws that show up in this season, especially when it comes to Andy Allo, who has a lot of screen time but, can never absolutely engage you. Amell is a gem as always and so are Daniels, Edwards and some of the other recurring characters in this show. But, the charm is slowly fading.

Upload Season 3: Final Verdict

Overall, Upload Season 3 has an enjoyable element to it. It has established a hilarious yet critical viewing niche for itself and it works. There are moments of dissonance in the show but, it still tries to do what most shows don’t- talk about the real things out there!
