Twinkling Watermelon Episode 8 Preview: The K-drama Twinking Watermelon or Sparkling Watermelon (반짝이는 워터멜론) is directed by Son Jong-hyun and written by Jin Soo-Wan. Ryeoun, Choi Hyun-wook, Seol In-ah and Shin Eun-soo will be appearing in the lead roles for the show. The show is expected to have a total of 16 episodes with a runtime of approximately 60 minutes each.

A 15.6 billion won production and supply agreement for the show was signed by production companies Pan Entertainment and Studio Dragon on September 5, 2023. The show takes over tvN’s Monday & Tuesday 8:50 time slot previously occupied by My Lovely Liar.

Twinkling Watermelon Plot

The story centres around a boy who is born and brought up by hearing-impaired parents. Moreover, he has a talent for music and is naturally gifted in the field. However, one day he visits a mysterious musical instruments store and travels back in time to 1995. There, Eun-Gyeol meets Lee Chan, Choi Se-Kyung and Yoon Chung-A. He forms an unlikely bond with them and joins the band formed by his father named Watermelon Sugar. Meanwhile, Lee Chan has a crush on Choi Se-Kyung, who is known as the Cello Goddess of Seowon Arts High School, and tries to win her heart.

The ensemble cast consists of Ryeoun as Eun-gyeol, the only hearing person in a family of deaf people. Choi Hyun-wook as Lee Chan who is a hot-blooded man who seems to have jumped out of a cheerful cartoon. Seol In-ah as Choi Se-kyung, the cello goddess of Seowon Arts High School. Lee So-yeon plays adult Choi Se-kyung. Shin Eun-soo as Yoon Cheong-ah, a cold and arrogant person, who is born deaf. She dreams of a sparkling life like Frida Kahlo.

In the next episode, Eun-gyeol returns back to the present which is the year 2023. However, he goes back again after he is unable to find his mother. He starts to connect with Cheong-ah in the past and forms a relationship. On the other hand, Se-kyung’s secret might be finally out in front of Eun-gyeol.

Twinkling Watermelon Episode 7 Recap

Sparkling Watermelon episode 7 starts with a phone call from a booth amidst the heavy rain while Se-kyung stands near the gate. She walks over to the booth and receives the call. As soon as she hears the voice, she realises who the caller is and asks him to not disturb her further. She finally reveals that she is not Se-kyung but Se-kyung’s daughter, On Eun-yu.

In a flashback, she looks back into her life where she was a prodigy cello player just like her mother. However, as time passed by her skill was not as par with her mother’s expectations which caused her extreme distress. Moreover, her parents also divorced following her mother’s drinking problem. Soon Eun-yu realised that her mother was unhappy with her life as she had to marry someone she did not love and give up on her career as a mucision.

After a huge fight, she left her house to stay with her father but she was disappointed when he had another woman in her life. Nowhere to go, she decided to kill herself. However, she entered the same musical shop which sent her to 1985 and so decided to take her mother’s identity. She cooked up a plan to help her mother meet the love of her life and in that way, she would not have to be born.

But her plan had a major flaw as she was not sure if Yi-chan was her mother’s true love. She remembers her mother mentioning that the one she loved had a high spice tolerance. So she decided to check the band members spice level and everyone failed except for Yi-chan, further confirming that he was the one. However, since she did not check Eun-gyeol, it left her mind with doubts.

On the other hand, Yi-chan took Cheong-ah to the hospital but she was very wary of him since she scolded her the last time they met. Yi-chan apologises for his behaviour and they both go out for lunch. He also provides her with his fax number and they go on to become good friends. In the same hospital, Eun-gyeol is also admitted and the doctors try hard to rescue him.

Yi-chan fails to admit it but he starts missing Eun-yeol and wonders where he was. When his bandmates were discussing replacing Eun-gyeol, Yi-chan grew furious and went into the streets to find him. However, some thugs tricked him into a dark alley and beat him up mercilessly. But he gets up again to find Eun-gyeol and simultaneously Eun-gyeol wakes up in the middle of the street and the year is 2023.
