The Worst of Evil Episode 6 Recap

The sixth episode starts with Gi-cheul talking to Hae-ryun on the phone in between his meeting with Eui-jeong. Hae-ryun is unhappy about not meeting the Gangnam Union leader, who assures her that he will meet her as soon as possible. After reminiscing about their past and Eui-jeong trying to get information out of him about his business partners, the two of them think about the promise that Gi-cheul had made Eui-jeong when they were younger – that he would be an emperor and marry her.

Later on, Gi-cheul and Jun-mo meet the Chinese to discuss business. After buttering her up with a new phone, a ton of cash, and a watch, Hae-ryun enquires why he hadn’t met her earlier and mentions that the Japanese called her father and insisted on meeting in person in Korea. They both feel confused as to why everything couldn’t be done over the phone and eventually, Gi-cheul tells her that he wants to raise their imports from 8kg to 10kg and promise to pay the extra fee instead of Japan. The proposal amuses Hae-ryun, who mentions that it’s too little too late.

Oyama next calls Gi-cheul and sets up a meeting for the next day. Meanwhile, the police discuss bugging the hotel rooms and getting to know about the meeting. Elsewhere, two men go up to the Gangnam police station to lodge a missing person’s case for Cho Jang-hyun, who viciously beat up the drug peddler a few episodes ago. As the detective tries to figure out what is happening, Gi-cheul gets a call from Oyama, who asks him to meet them at a hotel with the Chinese.

On their way, they come across the two Gangnam Station detectives, who try to ask him about Yankees, but Gi-cheul isn’t in the mood for their questions and refuses to entertain him. As he goes to the hotel, the police follow them to make sure that they are not meeting Yankees. At the hotel, the bigwigs meet but not before getting pat down by someone in the corridor. Plus, the hotel, too, is swarming with detectives.

With the pat down coming closer, however, Jun-mo is left tensed because of the recording device that he is carrying on him. As everyone stands there tensed, wondering whether or not he will be caught. Thankfully, at the last moment, the detectives trigger the fire alarm, and Jun-mo gets away long enough to hide the recorder in the cigarette pack.

Unfortunately for the detectives, the guards are asked to go to another room, and Gi-cheul faces a lot of doubts from the Chinese and Japanese, who wonder whether he is being followed by the police. Gi-cheul is tasked to stand outside the hotel with a bag in his hands, and if he is not apprehended by anyone, then the Japanese agree to do business with him. It’s an odd choice, considering the outside of the hotel is teaming with members from both sides of the law, who are all left equally astonished by this turn of events.

However, that’s not why things are happening – the Japanese want to trade directly with the Chinese so as not to share the money with a third party. Plus, Kim Hwa-seong wants to remain invisible from the drug trade considering his social standing, and they want to bring in someone else from Korea other than Gi-cheul. As the two talk, a frustrated Gi-cheul goes back inside the hotel, closely followed by Min-goo. As the three bosses start their discussion once again, Min-goo makes a grand entrance, and Jun-mo fights the detective to give the others a chance to get away.

Later on, it seems like Hae-ryun is quite taken by Jun-mo’s sacrifice and loyalty to Gi-cheul, and his actions make her want to take a chance with the team once again. Unfortunately, Hwa-seong refuses to continue the trade for the time being, thanks to the police rushing into the meeting. The police are left annoyed at the deal gone wrong, considering they won’t be able to catch anyone in the act for now. However, Hae-ryun continues to proposition Jun-mo, mentioning that she’d like him to be her tour guide if he doesn’t get into trouble for fighting with the police.

Meanwhile, at Gangnam Union headquarters, Min-goo causes a scene and breaks into the office, beating up everyone inside in search of Jun-mo. The latter agrees to give himself up to the police, and if he is able to solve everything, he asks that Gi-cheul adds him to the deal with China and Japan.

The Worst of Evil Episode 7 Recap

The episode starts with Jun-mo getting grilled by the police and being asked who the people who came out of the hotel room with Gi-cheul are. He continues to refuse to know anything, but the detective refuses to believe him and gets more and more annoyed, ending up getting horribly beaten up by him. Cho Chang-sik eventually saves Jun-mo from getting thoroughly murdered at the hands of the detective and admonishes them from using such violent force to get information.

When Jun-mo finally gets out, Jung-bae, having seen Do-hyun at the hotel, is suspicious of how he got out so easily. However, no one agrees to believe him, and Jun-mo turns the conversation around. Interestingly, Gi-cheul asks him to talk to Hae-ryun because she seems to have taken a liking to him, although Hee-sung is sceptical of that idea.

Meanwhile, after talking to the police, Jun-mo agrees to meet Hae-ryun to push the deal forward faster, while Gi-cheul meets Eui-jeong, and she tries to nudge information out of him while reminiscing about the past. Elsewhere, the Chinese bodyguard goes to a bar to score something secret while Jun-mo contacts Hae-ryun to take her on a trip around Seoul. As the two go out, Jung-bae tries to get more information about Jun-mo’s connection with Eui-jeong, which the guy, of course, confirms with Gi-cheul.

Meanwhile, Hae-ryun takes Jun-mo on a tour and then to a place to eat. It makes him quite uncomfortable, and it is clear that he doesn’t know what to do with her very clear affection. Either way, he tries his best to convince her to continue the trade. Instead, Hae-ryun gets his bodyguard to give her the meth that he acquired in the nightclub and asks him to have it in front of her. As he is about to, she tells him that Gi-cheul has been stashing away products meant for Japan and selling them in Korean nightclubs, which takes Jun-mo by surprise.

As a last-ditch effort, he agrees to carry on the operation instead of Gi-cheul by getting his permission, and although she refuses to agree at first, he mentions that if she works with him, then she can spend more time with him. Hae-ryun doesn’t take the bait, and a dejected Jun-mo asks the police to go to the nightclub and stop the Korean business first and get Jung-bae to take the fall for it as well.

Tae-ho Rock Cafe gets properly run through by the cops, who are able to get the guy selling the meth there. As everyone is arrested, Jung-bae goes back to the office to discuss the colossal mess that has hit his business. Eventually, the audience gets to know that Jung-bae has been selling meth behind Gi-cheul’s back and has been making money without telling him. Jung-bae isn’t able to give excuses for his behaviour, and Gi-cheul eventually asks him to leave with whatever he can get his hands on.

Jung-bae refuses to leave without a fight and tells him to suspect the right people instead of him. However, when he realises that Gi-cheul won’t agree with his assessment, he leaves after a tearful “break up”. Taking the opportunity, Jun-mo convinces Gi-cheul to look ahead, and a timely call from Hae-ryun helps him to win the gangster’s trust. In the office’s elevator, Jung-bae and Jong-ryul have a horrible fight, and in the end, the latter scars his face and tells him never to return.

Meanwhile, Gi-cheul sets up a prayer meeting for Eui-jeong’s mother and through her conversations, he suspects that she might have never moved to Wonju, as Jun-mo had previously mentioned. He asks his background check guy, Jin-pyung, to look into it and then goes out with Eui-jeong while he tries to get information. Jun-mo realises that Gi-cheul might be on his way to keep his wife hostage and rushes to meet Jin-pyung, who turns out to be more careful than he thought.

Jin-pyung tries to run away from him, having realised who Jun-mo is, and the two get into a scuffle in the rain. In a freak accident, Jin-pyung falls over the terrace and plummets to his death, leaving a devastated Jun-mo to get the evidence in his pocket as he gasps for his last breath. As Eui-jeong leaves the restaurant, Jun-mo wonders what to do now and walks away with the evidence and Jin-pyung’s phone. in hand, probably wondering whether or not Gi-cheul’s suspicions towards him will increase this time.

The Worst of Evil Episode 7 Review

Ok, I must say that the series has increased the thrill quite staggeringly in these two episodes, and you can’t help but look away as you wonder who will backstab whom in this twisted game of politics and power. All the moments in the hotel were fantastic, and you’d be genuinely wondering what is about to happen in the next scene. I think I felt similarly in a lot of the scenes in this week’s episodes. It’s made so well, and now that we have an idea about everything that is happening, it’s more thrilling to follow these characters and their journeys.

Once again, Ji Chang-wook and Wi Ha-joon are amazing in their roles. Every moment that they are on screen is magnetic. Both have amazing screen presence, and it suits both their “alpha” characters brilliantly. Special mention to Im Sung-jae for episode 7 – the moment he has a falling out with Gi-cheul and then gets beaten to a pulp is oddly emotional to bear witness, even though he is a gangster who sells meth to youngsters and steals from Gi-cheul. You can see the hurt in his eyes and voice as he realises that he can’t change Gi-cheul’s mind.

In the end, the series has really caught my attention and the slow-paced story progression, with hints of horrifying violence, is an ideal way to go about it. Hopefully, next week will be just as entertaining!
