Loki Season 2 Episode 1 Recap

Loki Season 2 Episode 1 begins with him returning to the TVA, where Mobius and Hunter B-15 fail to recognise him. They inform their team to capture him, but he escapes and meets Casey. Even Casey cannot recognise him. Suddenly, Loki starts shaking and jumps from one timeline to another until he goes to the timeline, where everyone recognises him. He believes it wasn’t another branch or timeline, but he was in the past. That’s why others couldn’t recognise him.

Mobius and B-15 are questioned by the court at the TVA for everything that happened in the past. Suddenly, Loki appears and tells Mobius everything. He tells them about Sylvie’s action and that He Who Remains owns the TVA. He’s the one who controls everyone working at the TVA and their lives.

Mobius takes Loki to R&A (Repairs and Advanced), where Ouroboros, aka OB. Mobius goes to visit OB after 300-400 years. Suddenly, Loki goes back to the past through something called “Time Slipping” and meets OB there, who doesn’t recognise him. The OB in the present time tells Mobius that what’s happening to Loki is something he has never seen before.

Suddenly, the present OB remembers that Loki had come to him in the past and complained about Time Slipping. We learn that time slipping is possible in the future. Loki asks the OB from the past what remedy would stop time slipping in the TVA. OB tells him that if the person wants to end up someone in the time, they would need a Temporal Aura Extractor. As OB talks to past Loki about this, the present OB remembers the same and gives the same information to Mobius. The past OB has the device that the present OB suddenly remembers and gives to Mobius.

One needs to get to the Temporal Loom so the Extractor can pull Loki directly out of the time stream. However, it’s a dangerous procedure because if one spends too much time there, the temporal energy will peel off a person’s skin. But it is Loki who has to go through the most painful procedure. He has to violently rip himself from every thread of time and space, aka prune himself. He has to do it because when something is pruned, it is released from time, and hopefully, the Extractor will pull him into the present. If the process fails, the result will be even worse.

Loki slips back to the present time, and the lamp on OB’s table suddenly flickers. Mobius informs that there have been power surges all over the TVA, which shocks OB. OB tells them that the power surges must be happening because the timeline is branching, resulting in Loki’s time slipping. B-15 joins them as they head to the Temporal Loom. The Loom is called the heart of the TVA. It’s overloading as it is not constructed to build so many timelines.

If they have to stop the meltdown, they have to prune all the extra branches, which will result in the death of hundreds or more people. OB suggests that if that’s not the option, he must close the blast door to protect the TVA. But once the doors are closed, they won’t be able to resync Loki. So whatever he has to do, it has to be done now.

To fix Loki’s time slipping, Mobius has to go and launch the Extractor, which will pull Loki from the time stream. This needs to be done before OB closes the blast doors. OB hands Loki a timer; if it turns green, it means Mobius succeeded. If they fail, Loki will be lost in time forever, and Mobius will lose his skin. They have 5 minutes to pull this off.

Loki Season 2 Episode 1 Ending Explained: Does Loki Get Pruned?

Hunter D-90 informs them that Dox and her crew are raiding the armoury. Loki says they’re going after Slyvie and wants to leave to save her. But Mobius stops Loki as they only have one shot to save him from Time Slipping. B-15 tells them that she will handle Dox. As Loki is about to tell Mobius what to do if he fails to make it, he suddenly time slips, but this time he’s in the future. He believes that it’s the Timestick that’s doing all of this. In the present, OB makes Mobius wear a suit to carry out the mission to help Loki.

Mobius walks out to launch the Extractor. In the future, Loki is searching for the Timestick inside the TVA. As Mobius launches the Extractor, the timer in Loki’s hand turns green. They only have 30 seconds to fix it. They run out of time, and OB closes the blast door. OB tells Mobius over the radio that he could’ve done nothing to save Loki. OB says that Loki is lost to time.

In the future, Loki is standing in the elevator when a phone keeps ringing. Someone is trying to open the elevator. The person is none other than another Loki variant, Sylvie. But suddenly, someone prunes Loki from behind, and he returns to the present. Loki tells Mobius that they have to find Sylvie. Hunter B-15 is shocked to see the massive army Dox has arranged to find Sylvie.
