The Worst of Evil Episode 4 Recap

The episode starts with Jun-mo struggling to shoot the man in front of him as Gi-cheul and his men increase the pressure on him. As Jun-mo fails at his task, Gi-cheul’s men end up shooting the man anyway, with Jong-ryul reminding him that murdering a man isn’t easy and that he needs more practice. At Gangnam Union, Gi-cheul continues to dig into Jun-mo’s background but runs into one obstacle after another, and even his associates find Jun-mo to be not trustworthy.

Soon enough, Jun-mo realises that the entire gang is suspicious of him and that he has yet to break into their inner sanctum. Meanwhile, the police ask Eui-jung to help them gain Jun-mo’s lost trust back as they also realise that he might be in hot water for what happened that night. She does as she is told and calls Gi-cheul that night to meet up with him over drinks. The latter calls Jun-mo to accompany him to the meeting, and it is apparent that Gi-cheul doesn’t trust Jun-mo anymore.

As Eui-jung meets Gi-cheul to convince him that Jun-mo is trustworthy, Do-hyung tells Jun-mo the plan and why Eui-jung is meeting the gangster. In the restaurant, the two friends discuss their past lives and the kiss that they shared at that restaurant when they were young. Later on, Jun-mo drives both of them back home and is left shaken, watching his wife with Gi-cheul and discussing her mother and whether or not her husband ever visits her.

She lies, as previously discussed with the police, and tells him that she has divorced her husband and no one knows about it. At the Union, Gi-cheul asks Jun-mo to keep the meeting a secret and says that he might meet her frequently from now on.

The next morning, as news spreads about Eui-jung’s mother’s death, Jun-mo accompanies Gi-cheul to the funeral, sweating about someone finding out. However, at the last moment, he makes up some reason and asks Gi-cheul to go in alone, finding his own heart breaking at him, unable to comfort his wife in her time of need.

Things get further complicated when Do-hyung swoops in to save Jun-mo’s cover from being blown, and it gets tense between the two men as Gi-cheul tries to comfort Eui-jung and vie for her attention. Jun-mo later on pays his respect to his mother-in-law in a heartbreaking scene which proves just how close his relationship was to her.

That night, the two men bond over their broken families and Jun-mo shares that he wants to become successful like him. Gi-cheul agrees to help him, but in return, he wants his help to get close to Eui-jung. After a little thought, he agrees to help him but asks Jun-mo to take him on his next fishing trip. Gi-cheul thinks it over and, after some light convincing, warms up to the possibility. Later on, a heartbroken Jun-mo apologises to his wife over the phone for causing her pain and for not visiting her mother before her death.

Elsewhere, Kang Geon meets up with another gang boss and proposes to start a war with Gi-cheul. Everyone else, too, things start to get very complicated with the absence of elders to keep things together. As different gangs try to recruit a shady-looking character, Jun-mo is invited to the fishing party unexpectedly.

On their way that night, they are ambushed by a group of cars who try to get them to crash, and when they do, they try to get into the car. Kang Geon turns out to be the responsible party, and as the two battle for their lives, Jun-mo gets his hand on the gun and puts it on one of the assailant’s heads.

The Worst of Evil Episode 5 Recap

The fifth episode starts with Jun-mo shooting two men and then an all-out brawl happening. In the midst of the fighting, Gi-cheul realises that his teammates might have been lying about why they could not join him on their fishing trip. Jong-ryul saves them from being murdered, and they then take a mortally wounded Jun-mo to the hospital. The next morning, he asks Jong-ryul to find out which of the four men (Jung-bae, Hee-sung, Kyung-jin and Byung-woo) joined hands with the Jaegeon Group.

When Jun-mo wakes up, he and Gi-cheul have a heart-to-heart conversation in which the former learns that the fishing trips aren’t just to catch fish. When Jong-ryul arrives, Gi-cheul asks everyone to reach the office and says that he will be punishing the rat appropriately for selling the gang out. J

un-mo asks Do-hyung to get the rat out as soon as possible so that Gi-cheul can’t murder him, but the police get there too late, and Gi-cheul beats Kyung-jin to a pulp at the office. When it comes time for Jong-ryul to cut some part of him open, Jun-mo takes the first chance he gets to beat Kyung-jin up and then asks Gi-cheul to let him go, which everyone agrees to.

The gang eventually starts to get ready for the Chinese to arrive while Eui-jung asks Gi-cheul to meet her. Meanwhile, Jong-ryul and Jun-mo let Gi-cheul know that they need to be sure about Jung-bae and Hee-sung before they are sent off to meet the Chinese, but something more is happening behind the scenes between the two of them behind everyone’s eyes. Jong-ryul goes to Kang Geol to find the truth about who gave his gang the information about Gi-cheul’s route, and he eventually murders him. However, this results in Gi-cheul learning that both of his friends are clean.

The two eventually talk about Gi-cheul’s relationship with Eui-jung and the danger it puts the gang in while Jun-mo meets his wife, and the two share a nice meal together.

The next day, Jun-mo picks up Hae-ryeon from the airport and from the get-go, things seem to be tense. After dropping them off at the hotel, Jun-mo learns about Eui-jung meeting Gi-cheul and is left dumbstruck that the decision was made without him. However, on his way back to the hotel, he stumbles upon Oyama, who also arrived at the hotel at that moment.

The Worst of Evil Episode 5 Review

Ji Chang-wook and Wi Ha-joon continue to leave us awestruck with their believable and hard-hitting performances, which feel almost like watching something real. The newest episodes add more layers to the story as you are left questioning who is back-stabbing whom in the gang, and the added layers of politics and building and burning bridges are hard to keep up if you don’t give 100% of your attention. Every scene has something or the other happening that is both thrilling and filled with bloodshed.

Meanwhile, Chang-wook’s performance during Jun-mo’s mother-in-law’s death is almost difficult to watch – he sells his heartbreak at losing someone close to his heart, and your heart breaks for his inability to do something about it. Either way, The Worst of Evil keeps increasing our expectations; hopefully, it delivers on its promises.

The Worst of Evil is available to stream on Disney+.
