Lost in the Stars Review: Betrayal, Revenge, and a Starry Sky Under the Sea

Lost in the Stars (消失的她 / Xiao shi de ta) is Netflix’s latest Chinese thriller mystery Film which brings an intriguing plot which soon becomes predictable to most mystery thriller lovers. Directed by Rui Cui and Liu Xiang, the film stars Zhu Yilong, Ni Ni, Janice Man, Du Jiang, and Huang Ziqi, alongside other cast members.

The film tells the story of a man whose Wife goes missing while on a vacation, however, 15 days later a woman shows up in front of him claiming to be his wife. As evidence of her being his wife shows up everywhere, how will he find his wife and prove the woman in front of him to be a fraud?

Netflix’s synopsis of the film reads:

Fifteen days after his wife vanishes on their anniversary trip, He Fei encounters a mysterious woman who claims to be his missing spouse.

Lost in the Stars promises an intriguing plot which will keep you on your toes until the end however, it only partially fulfils this promise. Bringing us a good start that keeps us intrigued for the first half of the film, the latter half can be decoded by mystery lovers who have gone through a somewhat similar plot maybe a few more times. But this does not stop the film from bringing its own charm on screen.

However, if you are somewhat new to this genre, it can be quite a delight to watch the film and see the plot unwrap to give you a sense of wow. Besides the story, the cinematography and acting must be pointed out because it was definitely praiseworthy and carried the film all the way until the end.

Zhu Yilong has stood out in his role in this film and has done a commendable job as the husband who is confused, scared and worried while desperately looking for his wife. And when it comes to the twist, in the end, he carries on with his character accordingly and brings out what is best. Meanwhile, the other cast members played their parts well and further enhanced the mystery and thrill of this film.

But once again, the plot could have been better by bringing in more drama and thrill which would’ve definitely been perfect. However, keeping this aside, the film has been an entertainer which is not going to be a disappointing watch for most of its audience. The film holds its own charm and appeal and will bring you its own kind of thrill which makes it worth the watch.

The Chinese thriller is a fun watch which brings mystery and excitement to most of its audience, while some might find it lacking in places which let the mystery out. While lacking in a few places, Lost in the Stars is a beautiful yet conspiracy-filled story that brings twists and turns in a way which will keep you entertained until the end.

Altogether, this is a good one-time watch which will not make you feel like you’ve wasted any time. Thus, it is definitely worth streaming for a good relaxing evening when looking for something to watch.
