Who Killed Jill Dando Plot

Jill Dando was murdered on her doorstep in 1999 in broad daylight. What followed the murder of the BBC legend was the biggest investigation in British history. Unfortunately, in spite of a massive manhunt, no perpetrator has ever been caught, and the case remains open to this day. Who Killed Jill Dando Review

Who Killed Jill Dando? is a surprisingly emotional watch for a true crime docuseries that focuses on finding the mysteries behind a shocking assassination. The series, first and foremost, deftly puts forth the emotions behind losing a loved one, not only for those close to them but for everyone else whose lives she touched. The series cuts through the sadness and the thrill of Dando’s death with sweet moments from her life wherein she is having fun, doing her job or just living in the moment. These moments really do touch your heart thoroughly and are the driving force behind why you like the series through its short runtime.

With no suspects to hold on to, the docuseries is definitely a frustrating watch. In spite of the myriad of suspects, you are left feeling unsatisfied because, regardless of the deeper look, the reality of the situation is that there are no suspects. After looking into Dando’s relationships, the investigation even goes into the Yugoslavian War and the mafia. However, the answer may lie somewhere closer. The series uses old footage from the investigation to contextualise the story along with the voiceovers from the investigators, journalists and those close to Dando. The background score adds to the mystery element of the series.

The series breaks down the suspect list with moments from Dando’s life and what drove her in her professional life. This creates a nice balance between thrill and emotion that breaks the monotony of both. The recreations were also fine and didn’t really overstay their welcome at any point. If anything, sometimes the recreations feel rather real and with some great editing, some of the moments feel very realistic, which is a plus point.

However, I am forever left to understand the point of these shows since the answer to all the questions they ask is that they don’t really have one. Sure, we look at interesting and intriguing circumstances and old evidence and rethink whether one of them might be “it”, but the truth of the matter is that we will never know. There is no true answer. It’s a case that might just never be solved. At some point, you have to ask yourself the reason for making and remaking a show such as this because you could probably get the information online at any time.

And, of course, true crime documentaries are rather thrilling to watch and, if done correctly, can be really interesting. But even then, you know you are going to be left disappointed at the end. This isn’t to say that Who Killed Jill Dando? is a boring watch – not at all. But you have to ask yourself and producers what new information they are bringing forth with a new sensational show.

The highlight of this docuseries is that it features an interview with Barry George, a person who had several convictions before being arrested for Dando’s murder. And although it’s intriguing, he also doesn’t add anything new to the things that we already know. So, as mentioned previously, it doesn’t add anything to this sensational case that everyone probably wants answers to.

Who Killed Jill Dando Review: Final Thoughts

Who Killed Jill Dando? is an interesting and intriguing docuseries that keeps you hooked to the show as it goes through its list of suspects and circumstances behind the death of famous BBC TV presenter Jill Dando. However, in spite of being quite watchable, it doesn’t add anything new to the already-known facts of the case, which might make you wonder what the point is of the show.
