In an exclusive preview released by Netflix, the streamer has unveiled The Devil’s Plan rules ahead of the upcoming Korean reality survival competition series’ premiere. To keep the intrigue factor high, the streaming giant had previously kept concept details for the same all hush-hush, but with the show’s release date high on the horizon, we finally have a grasp on what it’ll be like, and how it will chart out a mind game festa with its progression to determine the brainiest apple in the bunch.

This series’ (데블스 플랜) release comes after the recent premiere of high-quality K-dramas like A Time Called You and Song of the Bandits. And so, keeping up with its well-paced train of Korean premieres, Netflix is now ready to include a new reality contest title to its pre-existing catalogue of such content rich in former show releases like Zombieverse, Nineteen to Twenty and more. Starring 12 contestants from various fields out to clinch the title of the wittiest victor and the chance to grab a cash prize amounting upto 500 million won, the show has been produced by Jung Jong-yeon, and even stars K-pop star SEVENTEEN Seungkwan among other celebs.

The Devil’s Plan Rules Explained

The conspicuous presence of the Devil aka the show’s host comes to light in the new video released by Netflix. Donning his ever-lit up sinister mask, he gets down to the rules of the special game that the contestants are supposed to indulge in soon. Each one of them is handed a golden square “piece” that will serve as their currency as long as they’re in the competition arena. Depending on the result of each game, they’ll either lose or gain more of these ‘pieces’. Plus, since they’re deemed the currency within these walls, contestants can use them to purchase useful resources for games, or even use them as “bargaining chips” to settle negotiations between each other.

At the very end, the two players in possession of the most number of pieces will advance to the final round and the winner of this round will automatically be crowned the ultimate winner of the show. However, as expected, those who lose their pieces midway will be eliminated on the spot and would have to leave the premises.

Each day will bring them face to face with two games or challenges – one of which will the main match in the morning and the other a prize match in the evening. All members of the show would have to participate in the main match, and then depending on the results, they’ll lose their pieces or gain them. To resolve things, the two people with the least number of pieces after the main match will be imprisoned, but in case more than two gave the least number of Pieces, the person taking the lead with the most number of Pieces will choose two out of them to be imprisoned.

So what do the players in the prison do then? They won’t be allowed to participate in the prize match, and will have to stick to their present spot till the next main match in the morning. And as for the prize match, all contestants must work together to achieve the same goal, and these very matches in the evening will eventually determine the amount of the final cash prize, which can rise upto 50 million won, but is presently, i.e. at the beginning of the games, is set at zero won. Therefore, people will have to work their way up through 6 prize matches to expand the future victor’s bag.

The games so included will push the contestants to their limits as they the maximum capacity of their brain power. These people can resort to any means necessary to achieve their desired, except choosing the path of violence and theft. Even though, at the finish line, the winner’s triumph will be stained with betrayal and deceit, ultimately only results matter and the final prize will be awarded to the last person standing.

The Devil’s Plan Cast

Reigning from various professional fields, the 12 contestants are either a lawyer, doctor, Go player, celebrities, or more. It stars Ha Seok-jin from Problematic Men, Korean professional Go player Cho Yeon-woo, freelance announcer Lee Hye-sung, actress and inventor Lee Si-won, SEVENTEEN’s Boo Seungkwan – K-pop idol who’s also celebrated for his wit and adept variety skills.

Joining them, Seo Dong-joo – a MIT graduate and a lawyer in America with an MBA degree, comedian and actress Park Kyung-lim, Guillaume Patry – a Canadian gamer, now a professional poker player, Kwedo – former policy advisor to the Blue House, and Kwak Joonbin – a travel YouTuber, a multilingual speaker.

Other than these famous names, two non-celebrity contestants of the show are Seo Yoo-min – American orthopaedic surgeon, and Kim Dong-jae – a college student, now a professional poker player.
