Destined With You Episode 6 Recap and Review: The South Korean fantasy romance drama, (이 연애는 불가항력) stars SF9’s Rowoon and Jo Bo-ah in lead roles. The supporting cast also includes Ha Jun, and Yura. The JTBC series is directed by Nam Ki-hoon and written by Noh Ji-sul.

The series revolves around Lee Hong-jo (Jo Bo-ah), a civil servant and Jang Shin-yu (Rowoon), a lawyer who come face to face under unexpected circumstances. Hong-jo is revealed as the owner of an old wooden box that has been sealed over 300 years ago which contains a forbidden book that has a connection to Shin-yu. He is suffering from a mysterious illness and its cure lies in the book. Soon, they both realise that the key to saving Shin-yu from the curse is in the hands of Hong-jo. Amid the same, a romance blossoms between the two.

As for the cast, Jo Bo-ah recently starred in 2023’s Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 as Nam Ji-ah whereas Rowoon starred in 2022’s Tomorrow. Also, Ha Jun starred in Missing: The Other Side Season 2 as Shin Joon-ho and Yura previously played the role of Chae Yoo-jin in Forecasting Love and Weather. Destined With You airs on JTBC at the 10.30 PM slot on Wednesday-Thursday.

Destined With You Episode 6 Recap

Shin-yu wakes up in his bed unable to remember anything that happened the previous night. He believes that they both shared a kiss and he controlled himself. The next day he meets Hong-jo and tells her that he remembers everything about the night and the kiss, making Hong-jo scoff. She simply leaves him hanging with the mystery as she feels awkward to reveal the truth.

Later, Na-yeon meets up with Hong-jo and apologises for bullying her which ultimately led her to drop out of school. She cries and regrets as she believes she has a part in Hong-jo’s father’s death. Hong-jo clarifies that Na-yeon doesn’t have anything to do with it. Just then, Shin-yu comes and Na-yeon completely changes. She says that Hong-jo made her cry (playfully yet in a fake manner) and addresses Hong-jo as her best friend. She adds that Shin-yu is her fiance and introduces both of them.

Hong-jo and Shin-yu greet each other like they’re strangers. When Na-yeon becomes all lovey-dovey, Hong-jo leaves the couple and wonders why she feels like cheating. On her way out, she meets with Jae-kyung and they both eat lunch together. He asks about her relationship with Shin-yu and she clarifies that there isn’t anything between them and that it will all end on full moon. She also thanks him for the bouquet of roses she previously received from him. However, he denies sending it and says that Shin-yu might have sent it. She later finds that Shin-yu didn’t send it as well.

Hong-jo prepares for the full moon night to cast the disaster nullification Spell. She then remembers the night when Shin-yu leaned in for a kiss. We learn that Shin-yu blacks out before the kiss and Hong-jo takes him home. A drunk Shin-yu tells her that he doesn’t want to do the spell and that his feelings for her is real. He finally winds up saying that the cause behind his madness is his love for her.

Hong-jo snaps back to reality and scoffs as she believes Shin-yu said all those words while drunk. That night, they both go to a lake area and set up the items required for the spell. Just then a stranger comes and asks them to help find her dog. During the search, they mistake the dog for a wolf leading Shin-yu to protect Hong-jo. Shin-yu’s heart races for her but his moments get cut off when the dog starts licking him.

They both return back to their procedure and start it. She successfully finishes the spell and gives Shin-yu a paper with the spell that needs to be kept for 100 days for it to work. The duo split and they happily believe it’s all done. The next day, Jae-kyung gives Hong-jo a ride and asks her if she can visit the dog shelter with him on Sunday. Hong-jo feels happy that she is getting close to Jae-kyung.

In the office, Hong-jo learns that Na-yeon has patched up with her since they’ll be working in the same building and her apology wasn’t sincere. Previously, Ms. Ma Eun-yeong, the head of the Civil department gets attacked by a commoner who filed a complaint. To save her, Mr. Gong counter-attacks the man. Shin-yu takes a look at the CCTV footage and states that though the fight was done for self-defense it still will cause Mr. Gong some fine. When both Ms. Ma and Mr. Gong leave, Shin-yu once again looks at the footage and finds Hong-jo getting pushed by the commoner. Seeing it hurts Shin-yu.

That night, Hong-jo is met by Mr. Na Jung-beom, the flower shop man, and learns that he is the one who sent her flowers. Hong-jo feels extremely uncomfortable as he keeps forcing her to eat out with him. She learns that he has drunk the love potion as well causing him to feel lovesick for her. Thankfully, Shin-yu comes and saves her from the situation.

During their drive back home, the couple realise that the spell hasn’t worked and he still has feelings for her. They argue and Hong-jo gets out of the car and goes on the bus. Shin-yu takes out the spell sheet and reads it out only to find that Hong-jo has messed up the spell. Before Hong-jo can reach home, Shin-yu reaches and waits for her.

He then confronts her about the spell to which she states she got nervous when he was looking at her. She utters about him saying that he loves her that night. Right then, Jae-kyung reaches and argues with Shin-yu. When he asks him to leave as things are over, Shin-yu responds that nothing is over and that he loves Hong-jo.

Destined With You Episode 6 Review

This episode offers nothing about Shin-yu’s family curse but only develops the love triangle. Moreover, Na-yeon’s negative personality is shown to make it seem that Hong-jo and Shin-yu deserve each other. Ms. Ma and Mr. Gong’s romance seems to be blooming as well. So far, we understand that due to the love potion two men including Shin-yu are attracted to Hong-jo. However, Shin-yu is meant to be in love with her so irrespective of the spell, he’ll still develop feelings for her.

Henceforth, Hong-jo has to sort out the mess and decide who she wants. Jae-kyung will fight for Hong-jo as he has started to like her as well. Amidst this mess, Shin-yu’s illness will likely affect him severely, leaving Hong-jo shattered.
