Netflix has quite a reputation for its teen dramas, and its upcoming film You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah proves that the OTT platform is far from any kind of compromise. The movie is an adaptation of the Young Adult novel of the same name by Fiona Rosenbloom. It has been written for the screens by Alison Peck and has been directed by Sammi Cohen.
The friendship that occurred during the teenage years was the real deal, right? The feeling of being able to enjoy, celebrate and have fun with our besties cannot be put into words. The excitement that comes with sharing things and even secrets, like the person you had a crush on, is overwhelming. But what if the person to kiss your crush turned out to be your best friend?

You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah Plot/Storyline
Young Stacy (Sunny Sandler) believes that her Bat Mitzvah will help open doors for her. That is why she is planning the event in the biggest ways she can imagine, including having Dua Lipa over. Even her best friend Lydia (Samantha Lorraine) is in on it. They share dreams about having cool boyfriends and living in Taylor Swift’s building. Hunky-dory stuff that comes to us all during that age, right? But there is a catch here. After all, how can we expect “drama” without it?
During a house party, Stacy spots Lydia kissing the former’s crush aka Andy Goldfarb (Dylan Hoffman). This does it for Stacy, who breaks off her friendship with Lydia without even giving her a chance to speak, which makes sense no matter what age you reach, right? Would you, a grown-up adult, listen to your best friend about what he/she has to say after seeing him/her kiss your crush despite having told him/her about your crush for so long? You may say yes, but we all know that the answer is no, at least for a couple of days, after which you may consider talking.

In the case of Stacy and Lydia, both are in a lot of pain because they are unable to talk to each other. From sharing every little secret with Lydia to avoiding her, Stacy finds herself in a mess. Seeing Lydia hanging out with Andy makes things even worse. Stacy’s parents, Bree (Idina Menzel) and Danny (Adam Sandler), try to make her understand that she needs to talk to Lydia before coming to any conclusion, but it takes a lot of courage to face a friend after you have blamed him/her for something.
There will be smiles, there will be tears, there will be misunderstandings, and there will be realisations. As much as Stacy is hurt, she will have to come out of it on her own. And the only positive way to do it is to speak to Lydia, who pretty sure misses her best friend. Will Stacy reunite with Lydia? Will the two celebrate the former’s Bat Mitzvah together? For that, we have to wait for the movie to drop.
