Moving Episodes 8 and 9 Review

After the first 7 episodes introduced the ongoing assassination of ex-agents who possess great powers, the viewers were notified about the perils the children of the agents are about to face. Episodes 8 and 9 stand as the beginning of all the answers to the questions that popped up while streaming the first few episodes.

So who are these agents? We learn that South Korea has an agency with special ops who work behind the scenes to protect the citizens from North Korea’s invasion as well as from all sorts of hazards. It is at this place, Bong-seok’s parents, Doo-sik and Mi-hyun meet. Doo-sik is the Namsan agency’s top agent who can fly, while Mi-hyun is the youngest to graduate from the academy with powers of solid senses.

When the agency’s CEO assigns Mi-hyun to spy on Doo-sik, both of them fall in love knowing about the spying mission. The backstory of Doo-sik and Mi-hyun introduced other sub-stories like why they both were being watched, how they actually met, the reason behind the agency, their previous operations, other agents, and such.

Both of the episodes were heartwarming due to the intense chemistry between Doo-sik and Mi-hyun. Though both were skilled agents, they were humane and too kind to work under the agency. It is evident that Bong-seok garnered his values from his parents (also the power).

We’re also shown Hee-soo’s father working alongside Doo-sik in the two episodes. However, there isn’t much insight into his powers. But seems like the three were close from the beginning. So if they had decided to step away from the agency and live a normal life, there has to be a severe reason which we’re yet to find out.

Neat Details

An aspect of these two episodes that caught my eye was the details surrounding the agents. Mi-hyun has the ability to use her five senses to the extreme. She can view someone in HD even if they’re miles apart. Likewise, she can hear someone approaching from afar and notice who it is. The way they incorporated her strengths and presented them with neat editing, made her powers stand out.

Since she didn’t possess strengths like the others that are flying or regenerating, her set of powers was shown in the best way to represent how useful she is. On the other hand, Doo-sik’s flying powers were seen at times only when he failed. This is key to the series as it helps the viewers understand why he was being watched by the agency. This also creates a setup to know why he started to work under his own rules and not follow the orders of the agency.

Romantic Aspect Surprisingly Worked Out

Since this is a supernatural thriller series, I was skeptical about how romance would fit in but it did just fantastically. Doo-sik has always had his eye on Mi-hyun ever since he saw her on an unexpected mission. Doo-sik knowing that she’s spying on him, lets her do it to get close to her. Meanwhile, Mi-hyun falls for him and tries to protect him even if it means she evades the protocol. Their relationship gradually grew and looked fresh.

Never did I expect that the two actors Han Hyo-joo and Zo In-sung will have such intense chemistry that will pull one’s heartstrings. Despite being literal superheroes their romance looked so adorable and not fancy. The cinematographer has done a brilliant job with the frames such as the blossoms falling down during their walk and the full moon on the sky. Towards the end, when they share a hug, we see Doo-sik floating while Mi-hyun stands on her balcony, alluding to Aladdin but in a sad way.

Final Thoughts

Overall the two episodes opened the gate to the backstory of Bong-seok’s parents and built a foundation to show why they chose to go with living a normal life. In the upcoming episodes, we will uncover the plans taken by the agency against the agents and how they revolted.
