6 Kpop Bestie Duos We a Have Soft Spot for: BTS’ Jungkook-SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu, SHINee’s Key-Taeyeon and Others

Although friendships within a creative sphere are natural, it’s not as easy for them to be represented in the Korean industry, especially with several unsolicited words being dropped by certain “fans” of these artists. However, many Kpop Bestie Duos out there have simply turned a blind eye to these unaccepting statements and have only risen higher with their friendship goals.

From sometimes collaborating with each other to being their absolute true chaotic selves in each other’s company, there are a great number of Kpop friendships that we truly love from the bottom of our hearts. Here are a few of them that have touched our hearts!

Kpop Bestie Duos We Can’t Not Fall For

1. BTS Jungkook – SEVENTEEN Mingyu

The Jungkook-Mingyu friendship dynamic is hard not to love. Even just from the looks of it, these ’97 liners are so candid with each other, which is overtly evident from their dance challenge collabs as well. The BTS maknae has hardly been seen dancing on his new single SEVEN with anyone but the SEVENTEEN member, and that too wearing colour-coordinated matching outfits. Their SVT Super dance challenge video has similarly been shot in such poor video resolution that it makes you wonder if they’re even professional K-pop artists or just two best friends who randomly met up in a park and decided to shoot a video together.

Adding to their list of shenanigans, they even started an impromptu live broadcast together out of nowhere and quickly shut it down within two minutes of their giggling session. Other such cross-group live videos in K-pop have always been pre-planned and discussed beforehand between the respective labels/sub-labels before them finally being green-lit by the company, but these two said – enough of that formality and just went ahead with their inner thoughts.

2. BLACKPINK Lisa – GOT7 BamBam

Many K-pop stars fly overseas to fulfil their dreams of stepping on to the global stage, and this often leads them to feel homesick more than they let on to their fans. However, finding a fellow mate with whom you share your roots is a blessing in disguise in such cases. Lisa and BamBam are both the only Thai members of their respective K-pop groups. The childhood besties first met in their homeland and came together as part of the kids dance group We Za Cool. Since then, the two have had each other’s backs. Moreover, in 2020, they also joined forces to appear in the AIS 5G commercial (the largest Thai mobile company).

3. SHINee Taemin – EXO Kai

Also members of a bigger friends squad, popularly known as the ‘Padding or Parka Squad’ (including BTS’ Jimin, Ha Sung-woon and HOTSHOT’s Kim Timoteo as well), Taemin and Kai particularly make for a glorious addition to the list of idol friendships since they even share the same entertainment label – SM, which has offered them with unlimited chances to bond openly and get to know each other better as colleagues too. Them being fellow members of the supergroup SuperM has multiplied their interactions which first deepened during their trainee days. Plus, being of the same age and sharing their common passion for dancing helped them strengthen their bond.

4. NCT Mark and Haechan

There are many intra-group friendships that we’d like to discuss some other day perhaps, but, for today, only Mark and Haechan (together known as MarkHyuck) get to be on this list. Their friendship is especially founded on the pillars of partnership, reliance and support for each other. Call me biased, but they’re the poster image of what platonic soulmates should be like.

Being a member of a single group already has a severe heavy physical and emotional toll on the artists, but these two have participated under the banners of several subunits or groups – NCT 127, NCT Dream and NCT U, which has often caused their other fellow group mates to be anxious for their well-being as well. But through that arduous journey, these two Kpop besties have always held each other’s hand and pulled each other up. Despite their stark opposite onscreen personae, they’ve come out with bangers like covering Bruno Mars’ Billionaire with Haechan making up a bazillion revised nicknames for Mark in the process.

5. SHINee Key – Taeyeon

From being called “real siblings”, to starring on variety shows together, even collaborating for the song Hate That, and just straight up appearing to be the same person in different bodies, these SM stars are absolute bestie goals. Key and Taeyeon have been good friends since even before they finally debuted as part of their respective groups. During an interview with ELLE Korea, on being asked as to who he’d like to form a unit with, Key’s answer again pointed towards the other half of the “Kim Siblings” duo.

6. Kim Sejeong – TWICE Jihyo

Many fans have pointed out how this adorable friendship just fits like a glove, especially with Sejeong and Jihyo’s personalities being well in sync with each other. The duo has even shot a vlog together, capturing the warm moments of their Jeju vacation. Sejeong had previously also added that Jihyo and ASTRO’s Cha Eunwoo are her closest friends in the K-industry, whom she considers to be her “Level 1 friends”.
