Zombieverse Reactions: Dex’s Dexterity, Tsuki’s Screams and Ro Hong-chul’s Betrayal Get Netizens Laughing at the Mindless Hilarity

This new fake “reality show” scenario presented by Netflix on August 8, 2023, has now worked its dysfunctional magic on the viewers who are pouring in their Zombieverse reactions on X (formerly known as Twitter). Created by Park Jin-kyung and Moon Sang-don, the show (좀비버스) had 8 episodes that were released on the same date and its stellar ensemble main cast included the talents of Lee Si-young (Sweet Home), entertainer Ro Hong-chul, comedian Park Na-rae, TV personality Lim Cheol aka DinDin and the K-pop Japanese singer – Tsuki of Billlie (first group of survivors introduced).

Joining them in the following episodes, “Kkwachu Hyung”, ie Hong Seong-woo – a urologist, Kim Jin-young aka Dex – a former UDT soldier (known for his appearance in Single’s Inferno), the Yiombi siblings – Jonathan Thona Yiombi and Patricia Thona Yiombi and Yoo Hee-kwan became equally important and consequential members of the lot fighting to make it out alive. Those who’ve already watched the series know well enough that it had an impeccable production value that mostly translated into great results onscreen.

However, the supposedly “unscripted” Korean reality series also starred several supporting actors you would’ve otherwise spotted in many K-dramas. This intervention broke the immersion quality of the concept as viewers called out this tactic employed by the creators. Coming back to the main cast of the show that stepped into the shows of ostensible contestants for the reality show, their characteristic personalities have wooed the audience. Dex has particular again charmed his way into the hearts of the people watching the show as he showed off his hands-on ability to make it out of any dilemma pushed at his feet.

While the Single’s Inferno heartthrob won hearts with his agility and initiative to help his team-mates as their worthy leader, Billlie Tsuki screamed her way out of the situation. Her squeals throughout the episodes, despite knowing that sound attracted the make-believe zombies, became a perturbing issue for those watching the action unfold on their screens. Many of these players on the field often broke characters and let out a chuckle here and there, breaking the test flow of the foundational horror theme, but the one who took the lead in this race of laughing out loud at the wrong time and place was Ro Hong-chul.

Quite a few viewers found his behaviour of laughing in stressful situation as a relatable coping mechanism, but others boiled with anger when his actions and carelessness got the much-loved Park Na-rae bitten by the zombies. While these antics did manage to entertain the majority, who found the show a mindless comedy the could chill with, the other remaining fraction couldn’t deal with the confused monotony of its narrative. Here’s how X users reacted to the new show on Netflix.
