The Trailer of Meg 2 The Trench proves that the makers ensured that the audience, rather than getting scared, which should be the primary motive of a shark movie alongside some fun that comes with thrill, have a “great time” laughing at the absurdity. Now, whether this was their intention, we do not know.

The movie is a sequel to 2018’s The Meg that was directed by Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure, National Treasure: Book of Secrets), which was a box office success. This one has been directed by Ben Wheatley (2015’s High-Rise). I, for one, couldn’t have imagined that such a movie would fall under the genre of a comedy thriller or thriller comedy (not officially, but it seems like it), although more than half of all shark movies are just that. And this movie is perhaps the strongest addition to that list (alongside 1983’s Jaws 3-D).

Meg 2 The Trench Volume 2 Cast

Meg 2 The Trench sees the return of Jason Statham as rescue diver Jonas Taylor along with Page Kennedy as DJ, Shuya Sophia Cai as Meiying (daughter of Li BingBing’s Suyin), and Cliff Curtis as James “Mac” Mackreides. What’s cool is that famous Chinese action star Wu Jing has come on board as Jiuming. We also have Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Skyler Samuels and Sienna Guillory. We do not know if Li Bingbing is in the movie. Other than Jason, DJ, Meiying and Mac, the rest of the characters are yet undisclosed, so we will find out about them in the movie itself.

Meg 2 The Trench Volume 2 Plot/Storyline

An ecosystem at a depth of 25,000 feet under the sea is not to be trifled with. Jonas and Jiuming lead a team there and find themselves surrounded by huge megalodons and other aquatic species that also share the same size. Whether they have been there all the while or have been subjected to some kind of chemical or radioactive matter, we are yet to find out.

The mining operation that we see in the trailer must have disturbed these creatures that are now trying to reach the surface or just looking for a different place that they can call home. Whether and how our team of researchers find a solution to the issue while preventing attacks that are being carried out by the megs and other marine species (we do see a huge octopus) on people is what we will be subjected to in this thriller. And let’s accept that it will be fun, especially when we get to see Jason Statham preventing a Meg from swallowing him, with his mere legs. Only he can do such things, right?
