What’s Releasing on Netflix in August 2023: Heartstopper Season 2, One Piece, Destined With You and More

As one of the top OTT platforms that releases a new title everyday, the upcoming set of new premieres releasing on Netflix in August 2023 are an intriguing affair, and we can’t wait to lock our eyes on to our screens to dive into the streams of content coming ahead! Although July teased us with many titillating gossip sessions centred around dating reality TV shows, the upcoming month is planning to switch the pace altogether.

New Kdrama releases along with many docuseries titles coming out in August plan on diving into a different category of content entirely. Certain live-action adaptations dropping soon on the platform have caught our eye, and we’re really holding our breaths while hoping for their respective successes. But that’s not to say that we won’t be getting any reality TV content this month, because we have an eclectic selection premiering in the coming weeks, that promise to be different from anything we’ve seen before.

AUGUST 1

Untold Jake Paul the Problem Child

Most likely to have come on your SNS feeds as the “perennial troublemaker”, the social media personality is also now a professional boxer. His upcoming documentary film will unravel his journey from rising high from his prankster roots to becoming a pro-boxing sensation on the unlikeliest of all journeys.

Nineteen to Twenty Episodes 11-13 (Final)

First having premiered on July 11, 2023, on Netflix, the Korean coming-of-age/ dating reality show’s episodes have been released in intervals, and now its final set of three episodes will finally conclude the escapade of these young adults recently having turned 20 in age. The finale will set in stone who will end up with whom, and what fate holds for their future ahead.

Mark Cavendish: Never Enough

The inspiring British documentary captures the meteoric rise of the eponymous professional cyclist, and his ultimate downfall that again charted another rising trajectory leading up to his unmatched comeback in the sport.

Choona

Marking Jimmy Shergill’s comeback, the Hindi TV series is set to be a political comedy that will focus on a group of misfit bent on exacting revenge from a superstitious politician who becomes the one mutual thread tying these individuals together.

The Spanish crime docuseries brings the Spanish TV host Raquel Sanchez Silva’s husband to the forefront, as Mario Biondo’s last hours find focus in this Netflix title, uncovering new details related to his mysterious demise.

Head to Head

Netflix Saudi animated series County MaSameer‘s team is getting back together to concoct a noir comedy film title that brings about the unlikely alliance of a lovesick chauffeur and a bootleg mechanic when they accidentally pick up a retired crime lord from the airport. All hell breaks loose, when the bad guy’s posse chases the two, resulting in life-changing adventures, and a “head for head” barter deal.

Heartstopper Season 2

Charlie and Nick’s (Joe Locke and Kit Connor) young love is only starting to blossom in the healthy and encouraging midst of their loving friend circle. However, Nick struggles to come out to the rest of the world. On the same page, Elle and Tao try their all to forge a new chapter by bridging the gap between being childhood best friends to possibly something new. Mostly based on the third volume of Alice Osman’s graphic novels of the same name, the new season will map out new feelings in this wholesome coming-of-age title that we all love.

Zom 100 Bucket List of the Dead

Originally charted out as a manga series, the title has significantly gained immeasurable success even more after its recent anime premiere, and now we’re simultaneously receiving a live-action adaptation for it too. Led by Eiji Akaso as Akira Tendo, who suffers working endlessly at an exploitative company. Living his stagnant life in a deadly state, he finally awakens when the army of undead zombies overtake his town. Any average person would’ve been scared to death upon hearing of such a development, but Tendo rejoices instead at the news of not having to go to his office anymore.

As his acquaintances start getting bitten by zombies, he thinks that his end is near too and starts opening down a bucket list of 100 things he would like to do before turning into the dreadful creature. Unlike others fearing this change, he seems to be the only one having a blast amidst an apocalypse. What awaits him eventually? Tune into the new series this August to find out for yourself.

AUGUST 4

Fatal Seduction Volume 2

After a seductively first fatal ride in July 2023, the crime-drama-mystery TV show starring Kgomotso Christopher, Thapelo Mokoena, Prince Grootboom, Nat Ramabulana and others is coming back for the climax the August. The first volume ventured into the death of Nandi’s best friend, Brenda who ended her own life. The incident eventually unearths a bag of secrets buried in the past and a lot more.

The Hunt for Veerappan

In this historical docuseries, viewers will let in on life of Veerappan, a feared smuggler in South India for whom the police embarked on a 20-year-old manhunt.

AUGUST 8

Zombieverse

Following an uncommon format for reality TV, this Korean show will parody the premise of the Kdrama series All of Us Are Dead by setting up a fictional zombie virus outbreak in Seoul. Several actors from the industry along with influencers and other media personalities, will have to undertake challenging missions along the ride in their race to survival. Lee Si-young, Ro Hong-chul and Park Na-rae are some of the cast members for this apocalypse-themed reality TV series.

Untold: Johnny Football

The Netflix Untold docuseries will next dig into the backstory of the rise and fall of football hero Johnny Manziel, as the star himself along with friends, family and coaches come onboard to discuss the issue at hand.

AUGUST 10

Marry My Dead Body

The goofy Taiwanese comedy movie centres around the Policeman Ming-han’s life, who is as “straight as an arrow”. In a spooky turn, he uncovers an envelope which somehow lands him up with wedded to a gay ghost husband, and together their unlikely union must solve a crime together.

Home For Rent

Netflix’s chilling Thai horror movie title finds a landlady torn apart when a cult threatens to take over her life, after having enraptured her husband’s interest and moving on to their next target in sight – her daughter.

Painkiller

Matthew Broderick, Uzo Aduba, Taylor Kitsch and others star in this limited series based on a book that unfolds the causes and consequences of America’s opioid epidemic as an investigator sets out to unearth the truth.

Mech Cadets

The family-themed animated title follows a young group of Cadets who’ve been recruited to bond with Rob Mechs from space. Soon they’re joined by an underdog teen in their midst and their ultimate goal is to defend Earth against alien invaders.

AUGUST 11

Heart of Stone

Raising our adrenaline rush, the upcoming highly anticipated spy action film starring Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles is bound to be an August blockbuster. Its plot revolves around an intelligent operative, working for a shadowy peacekeeping agency, racing against time to prevent a hacker from stealing the most dangerously valuable weapon.

Down For Love

In this feel-good, New Zealand-based wedding reality TV show, several people with Down syndrome become its protagonist as their heartfelt quest for love digs deep into the highs and lows of dating.

AUGUST 12

Behind Your Touch Kdrama

Han Ji-min, Lee Min-ki and EXO’s Suho join forces to bring this thriller comedy Korean drama series come to life. Ji-min plays a veterinarian with psychometric powers who then falls for a hot-headed detective, played by Min-ki, and together they embark on a crime-solving quest in the small town of Mujin.

AUGUST 15

Untold: Hall of Shame

While most Untold episodes delve into individual narratives, this one will be investigating the one of sports’ biggest steroids scandal. The head of BALCO lab, suspected athletes and others come forward for interviews examining the grave issue.

AUGUST 16

Depp v Heard

Following the courtroom testimonies of both sides, this docuseries will explore the happenings of one of the most high profile Hollywood trials between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and its following online implications.

The Chosen One

This eccentric and provocative Mexican fantasy series, also starring Dianna Agron, will revolve around 12-year-old Jodie, who somehow comes into contact with his innate Jesus-like powers. What does the future hold for him? Which direction is destiny pointing him towards?

At Home With the Furys

The British reality TV will unfold what the undefeated heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s life is like at home with his family following his retirement from boxing. He ultimately gets wrapped up in the dysfunctionally common reality of family life, giving way to this hilarious docusoap.

Mask Girl

The conspicuously offbeat thriller Kdrama series starring Ko Hyun-jung, Ahn Jae-hong, Yeom Hye-ran and others is about to unveil a series of ill-fated life events tied to the titular character who used to be but an average office worker insecure about her looks. Changing her life overnight by turning into the famed masked identity on the internet, she must also bear with the consequences of this life-altering decision.

The Monkey King

Adapting the long-living Chinese legend as a family feature, Netflix is bringing back the epic quest for immortality led by the stick-wielding monkey and a young girl, who meet up with dragons, gods and many other surprise on their way.

10 Days of a Bad Man

The Turkish gritty noir film covers ground around a battered private investigator who must push through a web of lies entangled with each other to uncover the truth of a mansion murder mystery.

AUGUST 22

Lighthouse

Gen Hoshino and Masayasu Wakabayashi are set to get together in this Japanese talk show setting for some real talk as they dip their feet into insecurities and vulnerabilities while also threading in endless sessions packed with laughter.

Untold: Swamp Kings

The next chapter of the docuseries will probe into the ruthless football coach, Urban Meyer’s life, who turned around the motley Y2K Florida Gators’ era into a striking winning streak.

Destined With You Kdrama

SF9’s Rowoon and Jo Bo-ah have paired up for the new fantasy romance Korean drama series that will map out the irresistible nature of love. Bo-ah’s Hong-jo is about to uncover a forbidden book that’s been sealed for 300 years, and entangled with her fate is that of Rowoon’s Shin-yu, who’s but a victim cursed by the same book in question.

AUGUST 31

One Piece

The last day of the month will either make a great day for anime lovers or break it. Netflix is bringing alive the long-running and severely trailblazing manga and anime series title in this live-action adaptation starring Inaki Godoy as the titular renowned goofy character of Money D Luffy, who goes out on an epic adventure in search of a legendary treasure.

Ongoing Series on Netflix

The Uncanny Counter 2 (K-drama)

Originally premiering on July 29, the Season 2 episodes will air on tvN and Netflix every Saturday and Sunday till September 3, 2023. The series will see many familiar faces reprising their roles from the first season. Jo Byeong-kyu, Kim Se-jeong, Yoo Jun-sang, Yeom Hye-ran, Ahn Suk-hwan formed the beloved squad of Counters in the previous season, and this time, Yoo In-soo will be joining them as a clumsy rookie Counter.

King the Land (K-drama)

Lee Jun-ho and Yoona’s romantic escapades in the rom-com series will continue till the first week of August. Episode 16 aka the final episode will air on August 6, 2023.

My Happy Marriage (Anime)

Based on Japanese light novel series written by Akumi Agitogi and illustrated by Tsukiho Tsukiok, the anime series its new episodes every Wednesday.
