Enigma Plot

When a top student, Fa, notices that her classmates Matt and Wan died mysteriously, she realises that she is the next victim as she is the third top-scoring pupil at the school. When she finds evidence proving the new teacher Ajin isn’t who he claims to be, Ajin reveals the truth to her about the curse on the school that’s run by a magician. Fa and Ajin unite to find the culprit and put an end to the deadly spell.

Enigma Episode 1 Recap

The episode starts with Fa being recorded by her friend at their secret spot. Fa explains how she’s been feeling that the more they grow up, the more they find that there are mysteries lying ahead of them. The scene cuts to Wan, who sharpens her pencil until her finger gets stuck and starts to bleed. When a teacher approaches her, she yells and stabs the teacher with the sharpened pencil. Thankfully, the teacher gets admitted to the hospital and Wan leaves to a psychic ward.

Fa, who is known for being in her own world, visits Wan’s classroom and takes pictures of the blood prints. Under Wan’s desk, Fa notices something and tries to pull it out, only to get cut by glass shards. Just then, the new replacement teacher Ajin aids her wound and asks her if she’s noticed something odd. Fa remains quiet and Ajin leaves.

The next day, another student, Matt drowns herself at the school’s swimming pool. Fa becomes suspicious of Ajin, as she previously saw Matt reaching out to him before her death. She requests Yiwa, the teacher’s pet to sneak inside the staff room and find something on Ajin, but the latter declines.

Fa notices that Ajin has left and gets out of the staff room only to meet the possessed watchman trying to attack her. When she loses control, she finds Ajin walking up and exorcising the staff and saving Fa. Then, Fa wakes up in her room and everything feels like a dream. But she has a feeling that what she experienced is real.

When she meets with Ajin, she persuades him into the staff room and shows evidence of him carrying her last night. She has been investigating the deaths and kept cameras around the school. Ajin becomes agitated after Fa shows him a cursed object that she found on her table. He casts a spell that makes her faint.

Fa wakes up in a red room, with her hands tied. Ajin tries to exorcise her and the evil spirit within Fa wakes up. When she chokes him, the scene transitions to Ajin’s bathroom where Fa is seen sitting in a bathtub with her hands around Ajin’s neck. Ajin states that the red room and her hands being tied were all an illusion and that he has removed the curse on her.

Ajin tells the truth that he belongs to the magic world and has come to their school to find the person who has started the spell that kills students. He asks Fa to stay in his room hereafter until they both find the culprit.

Enigma Episode 1 Review

Thai series are always a step ahead. Enigma‘s first episode is fast-paced yet the director has done a tremendous job in conveying the storyline perfectly. Kudos to the editing team for the smooth transitions and the chilling frames they’ve worked on. This is such a good start for a Horror series and I must say, there’s a huge chance of Enigma bagging awards.

Coming to the cast, Win Metawin and Prim Chanikarn’s acting is brilliant and natural. The way Win shifts from a clumsy staff to an exorcist/magician shows how promising his skills are. Prim on the other hand excellently portrays the agony of a student who knows they’re going to die. Their chemistry is off-chart!

Enigma is streaming on Prime Video and on YouTube. If you’ve watched the episode, let us know your thoughts in the comment section.
