Did Tokio have twins?

It is revealed that Tokio gave birth to twins. During a scene, the doctors were deciding which baby they should hand over to her, which indicates that she is unaware that she had twins. Later, the director comes inside the room to take the baby away from her but Tokio refuses. The director orders Mina to take the baby from Tokio forcibly which leads her to develop a supernatural ability. Nerve-like veins start to appear from within Tokio’s body, as a way to protect her baby. This could mean the beginning of the creation of Hirukos (man-eaters).

Did the children escape?

In the after-credits scene of the episode, a boat appears which is travelling towards the city. From the window, Minihime, Shiro, Anzu and Taka can be seen looking over the big bright lights. Since in the present time of the anime’s universe, Earth is devoid of a functioning society, and it can only be deduced that the happenings involving the children of the facility actually happened in the past.

This completely changes the trajectory of the plot as it very well means that the man-eaters, aka Hirukos, are none other than the students of the facility. Moreover, this explains a lot about Maru’s powers as well, and he could be the other twin that Tokio is unaware of. The ‘Heaven’ that Kiruko and Maru are searching for might not exist at all.
