Skull Island Ending Explained: Did King Kong Defeat the Sea Monster? Did Mike Survive?

Skull Island Ending Explained: The climactic fight between King Kong and the sea monster was quite enthralling, yet it left us with a lot of unanswered questions.

Based on the Warner Bros.’ Monsterverse series, Skull Island is written, created, directed and executive produced by Brian Duffield alongside Jacob Robinson, Brad Graeber, Jen Chambers and Thomas Tull. The Netflix Original series is co-produced by Legendary Television and Tractor Pants and is animated by Powerhouse Animation.

An ensemble of talented actors voices various characters, such as Nicolas Cantu as Charlie, Mae Whitman as Annie, Darren Barnett as Mike, Benjamin Bratt as Cap, Betty Gilpin as Irene, Phil LaMarr as Sam and Fryda Wolff as an island girl. Jason Lazarus and Joseph Trapanese give the music for the series. With a total of 8 episodes, the runtime will be approximately 20-25 minutes each.

Skull Island Ending Explained

With Mike on the brink of losing his life, Charlie was running out of ideas to save him. Getting off the dangerous island was the only way out for everyone to remain safe. However, with the lack of resources and a huge sea monster lurking in the waters, the task of escaping became impossible. Charlie cooked up a plan that could ensure everyone’s survival, but it was too big of a risk. What was the plan, and were they able to carry it out?

What was Charlie’s plan?

Charlie’s plan was to make Kong fight the sea monster and kill it so the crew could safely get off the island and reach civilisation. He decided to steal the necklace from Kong’s cave that he loves and draw him towards the sea. Along with Annie and Dog, he reaches the cave and successfully steals it. Kong grows furious and follows them to the ocean, where he encounters the sea monster again. Both creatures started to fight hand to hand, and for a while, the sea beast manages to take control of the battle. However, Kong overthrows the monster and snaps the animal in half.

What happened to Annie and Dog?

After Annie successfully draws in Kong, things become dangerous for her and Dog. During the battle, Dog suddenly falls into the ocean, and he is unable to get out of the water. To everyone’s surprise, Kong rescues Dog and hands him over to Annie. Just then, the sea beast rises again and attacks Kong. Infuriated, Kong snaps the monster in two pieces and throws them into the ocean, creating a ripple in the ocean. The high tides wash over Annie and Dog. The next time Annie opens her eyes, she is found on a hospital bed in the city along with Irene with no trace of Dog.

Did Mike survive?

After Mike was poisoned by the sea beast, he became very sick. An elaborate plan was initiated just for his survival. However, in the last few minutes of the episode, he was not shown, and the audience is in the dark about his survival. Since Annie is placed in a hospital, it is possible that Mike is also admitted in the same and was being treated for his injury. Nevertheless, we can never be sure and only wait for a possible next season.

Was Charlie Captured?

Charlie helped Annie lead Kong towards the ocean and parted ways with her as Dog was unable to carry both their weights. However, on the way, a couple of island dwellers captured him and said that he will pay the price of hurting Kong. It is unclear if he is set free, and we will get the answer in the next season.
