5 Disappointing Movie Sequels That Didn’t Live Up to the Original: Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice, Jolly LLB 2 and More

Following up a good Film is no joke, and if the fans are invested, they sure as hell won’t let it go if it is bad. In order to show how bad it can get, we have compiled a list of disappointing movie sequels that would make anyone wish for their time back. These sequels are often based on the original, and while they try too hard to honour, that is their real downfall. Sequels are not just hard to nail. They are difficult to sell. Viewers are fickle; even if they’re not, they are more sceptical of what this new film could bring.

The following sequels don’t work for many reasons, like not encompassing the characters well, losing sight of the plot and original story world for shock factor, adding nothing to the original plot and regurgitating the same events over and over. So without any further ado, check out the following movies and their sequels that made no sense.

Disappointing Movie Sequels

Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice

Imagine a movie with heart, great action, acting that is out of this world, and a storyline that makes perfect sense for the character and then (SPOILER ALERT!!) imagine that character immediately getting killed in the next movie. Well, that is exactly what happened in this movie. Man of Steel set up Superman perfectly well in the universe, but of course, an internal feud had to go on and kill them off. This is like Captain America: Civil War but much worse because there is not even a good reason for them to fight.

Starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Jesse Eisenberg, Gal Gadot and others, this film is available to stream on Netflix.

Jolly LLB 2

Once again, when something isn’t broken, why would you fix it? In this film, the protagonist changes and is played by Akshay Kumar, which is already a red flag. Adding to that, he doesn’t even come close to the charm Arshad Warsi brings to the character. The last movie was about understanding the struggles of homeless people in this country, while this was a convoluted mess that didn’t come out to do better by the characters in the film. The social message got lost and came across as more preachy (the Akshay Kumar special).

Apart from Kumar, this film stars Huma Qureshi, Annu Kapoor and Saurabh Shukla, alongside other cast members. This film is available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

Let’s bring back Akshay Kumar in this conversation, except he’s not the problem here. The original film starred him and made everyone roll on the floor laughing, but this one with Kartik Aaryan, Rakul Preet Singh, Tabu and other cast members is just a regurgitated rendition of the original. Calling it a sequel is an insult because it does nothing to make the original plot better or carry forward elements from it in any manner possible. Instead, they also added some weird twin things to make the whole thing interesting.

To see this disappointment, stream it on Netflix.

To All the Boys PS I Still Love You

The first movie had so many amazing romance vibes, and then the second one just absolutely destroyed it by introducing a character literally everyone in the viewership fell in love with. Also, while the first film had the sweet innocence of just starting high school, this film continued it, instead of giving the character some maturity. This writer is still mad at the fact that she didn’t choose John Ambrose, a beautiful man with a stellar personality who blows Peter Kavinsky out of the water.

Starring Lana Condor, Noah Centineo, Jordan Fisher, Anna Cathcart and others, this film is available to stream on Netflix.

Thor Love and Thunder

If anyone saw Thor Ragnarok, they would agree that it is the best sequel possible. Character development is off the charts, introduction to new characters was flawless and had a plot that would make anyone feel bad about not taking up writing a screenplay in college. In direct contrast, it felt like this film didn’t have enough time to explore all the characters and their dynamics, create some resistance and give enough time to the audience to catch up.

The plot moved too quickly, didn’t allow the audience to settle and brought only the cute aspect to make the storyline somehow understandable. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Taika Waititi and others, this film is available to stream on Netflix.

What sequels do you think are more disappointing? Which ones have we missed? Let us know in the comments below.
