The film follows the series’ initial lore that surrounds a world of magic where exists a boy named Asta which no magical abilities. He dreams of becoming the Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom and heads out to battle Yuno, his long-time rival. However, his plans are interrupted when the ghosts of the past arrive in the form of Conrad Leto, a former Wizard King and predecessor of Julius Novachrono. He brings along the 3 most feared Wizard Kings in the history, Edward Avalaché, Princia Funnybunny and Jester Garandaros, to take over the Clover Kingdom.

Asta is met with a personal dilemma when he first met Conrad sheerly due to his beliefs being shattered in an instant. Whom he thought to be the protector of the realm turns out to be the destroyer raises multiple questions within him, and the creators have adequately showcased his conflicted emotions. He is a perfect and ideal main character of the series, which makes the audience root for him for his unyielding principles and good character. Moreover, his ability to never give up despite his shortcomings is what makes him extremely relatable.

Conrad, on the other hand, is ruthless and powerful. He possesses unfathomable abilities that no ordinary wizard can overtake him. Apart from being physically strong, his persistent and hell-bent mental fortitude is what makes him an immaculate villain. Even though he is utterly wrong, the viewers cannot help but sympathise with him and understand his perspective of the world.

Needless to say that the animation of the movie is the highlight. From the start till the end, the movie consists of multiple action sequences that keep everyone on edge. Every frame bursts with dynamic energy as characters harness the power of magic. From breathtaking battles that defy the laws of physics to the display of mystical forces, the animation captures the essence of each spell. Furthermore, the intricate and detailed character design is another aspect that makes the movie stand out from the rest.

The clash of ideologies takes centre stage, showcasing the depth of the lead characters’ convictions. Both Asta and Conrad are more alike than what is perceived in the beginning. Even though their beliefs directly oppose each other, the root of their determination and values are similar. The story draws a philosophical connection between them to display how people can have the same views, yet the choices they make are their true identities.

Although the plot contains theories that raise a moral conundrum within, it is far from unique. The storyline is predictable and does not have enough substance to make up for a two-hour-long movie, and it could easily be cut short. Moreover, a few elements of the story seem superficial and do not offer enough viable material to hold up the various arguments.
