The Night Manager Part 2 Exclusive! Tom Hiddleston Says ‘Aditya Roy Kapur Played The Part Better,’ Reveals Sandeep Modi

We are just a few days away from The Night Manager Part 2 release. Directed by Sandeep Modi, the spy thriller is the Hindi adaptation of the book and English series of the same name. The Indian adaptation cast includes Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sobhita Dhulipala, Tillotama Shome, Ravi Behl, Saswata Chatterjee, and others. The English series featured Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman, Elizabeth Debicki, Tom Hollander, etc.

The first four episodes of the Hindi series were released in February 2023. The Disney+ Hotstar team even had a special screening in London, where Tom, who plays Jonathan Pine in the English show, marked his presence. Tom also had a video chat with Aditya and was amazed by his performance as Shaan Sengupta. The Gumraah actor had shared a screenshot of his video call with the Loki actor and captioned it, “The OG Night Manager watched our show yesterday! He had some kind words to say. Bas aur kya chahiye (sic)”

Now, the director has revealed to Leisurebyte that Tom Hiddleston had an extremely positive reaction to the series. Tom felt that Aditya’s portrayal of the spy was much better than his.

In an exclusive interview, Sandeep Modi reveals, “Tom was blown away by Aditya’s performance. He could not stop talking about how well he thought he had played. In fact, I remember him having so many good things. I actually got them both to connect on my phone, and he spoke at length. While Tom made really big statements that Aditya had played the part better, Aditya and I corrected him by saying that both were great in their own way. Both were unique characters. Jonathan Pine and Shaan Sengupta have something similar, but many things are different. And yeah, both are fabulous actors who brought alive these two iconic parts.”

A few days after the show was released, there were reports that the makers of the original The Night Manager series were planning to make another season. The first season dropped in 2016, and fans have been waiting for an update on a new season. The reports caused immense excitement among the fans. I asked Sandeep Modi if the success and impact of the Hindi series had any role to play in convincing the British creators to start working on a new season.

Sandeep Modi answers, “Well, I hope so. I hope that we had something to do with it. But I can say that it was when we went to London to meet the team there and met Tom there that everyone was so enthused to know that this show was Disney+ Hotstar’s most viewed show ever. They were enthused to know that the adaptation was so well received. The story is still so relevant in this part of the world—any work of any creator, director, or actor that is alive and, you know, open to interpretation after 10 years in today’s age in a time when stories age in a week when stories come and go.”

He adds, “Films come and go, and you know, they get lost. For something to be alive and adapt well after 10 years gives a lot of joy to everyone. So it did enthuse them, and I hope the success of the second part, if it happens, will also enthuse them enough to actually start filming the second season soon.”

Part 2 will stream on Disney+ Hotstar on June 30, 2023.
