The underrated hilarity concocted by the Max series is coming back to reignite dark comedy antics in The Righteous Gemstones Season 3 this week! The American series created by Danny McBride first premiered in 2019 on HBO and brought the infamous televangelists, who serve the lord… and themselves, to life. Even if you’re not aware of how a megachurch functions and all that goes on behind the scenes, patriarch Eli Gemstone’s ways of running the place and how his entire family indulges in the affluence of it all will get you good.

While many subscribers may not have heard of the show yet, it’s road to Season 3 is proof enough to make a case for how well it has done by itself and held on to the ground beneath firmly. The “uproariously funny” series has had McBride directing some episodes over the two seasons along with David Gordon Green and Jody Hill helming the rest. Here’s what we can expect from the third instalment of the show.

The Righteous Gemstones Season 3 Cast

The show wouldn’t be the same without is titular squad of actors. The Gemstones are obviously reprising their roles – Danny McBride as Jesse Gemstone, John Goodman as  Dr. Eli Gemstone, Adam DeVine as Kelvin Gemstone and Eli Patterson as Judy Gemstone.

Additionally, other main cast members – Tony Cavalero as Keefe Chambers, Cassidy Freeman as Amber Gemstone, Skyler Gisondo as Gideon Gemstone, Walton Goggins as Baby Billy Freeman, Valyn Hall as Tiffany Freeman, Tim Baltz as Benjamin Jason “BJ” Barnes, and Gregory Alan Williams as Martin Imari – will also be leading by example as per their previous performances.

New entries announced include Steve Zahn, Kristen Johnston, Lukas Haas, Robert Oberst, Iliza Shlesinger, Stephen Dorff, Shea Whigham, Casey Wilson, and Sturgill Simpson.

The Righteous Gemstones Season 3 Plot/Storyline

Many guests joined the Gemstones in their Season 2 parade, and the new instalment is set to pick up right where the previous season left things off. Eli Gemstone has been pacing back and forth since the beginning to get his children to understand the ways of their work in the hopes of passing down the mantle to them in the future. However, his adult yet still immature kids work their own way around the family church leading to low attendance.

As the new generation of Gemstones takes over the megachurch, they clearly fail and tumble along the way. Meanwhile, a new faith-based group emerges to the forefront, that seems to have its affections in place for guns. At the same time, the new season’s trailer also unveiled Jesse getting wrapped up with NASCAR biz, whereas Judy drives off in a monster truck, all while Steve Zahn’s new character entry brews an apocalyptic war in the background.

The Righteous Gemstones Season 3 Release Date and Trailer

The darkly funny shenanigans of the Gemstones resume with the Season 3 premiere on Max on June 18, 2023. Indian audiences can stream it on Jio Cinema. First two episodes, titled “For I Know the Plans I Have for You” and “But Esau Ran to Meet Him” respectively will release on the same date, i.e. June 18 (Sunday). Subsequent entries will drop on the platform on a weekly basis till all 9 episodes conclude their run on August 6, 2023.
