MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 18 Review: Service Challenge at a Chinese Dine-In Had Nothing Special

MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 18 Review: After anticipating for months, the show premiered its fifteenth season with wonderful home cooks ready to win the grand title. On the judge’s panel, we have the previous season’s professional chefs, Andy Allen, Melissa Leong, and late Jock Zonfrillo, back on the set to taste and deliver excellent critics. Surprisingly, it doesn’t stop with them because other professionals like Jamie Oliver will also be making cameos to test the contestants with their best.

The participating contestants are Adi Nevgi, Alice Han, Amy Tanner, Andrea Puglisi, Antonio Cruz Vaamonde, Brent Draper, Cath Collins, Declan Cleary, Grace Jupp, Jessica Perri, Larissa Sewell, Malissa Fedele, Phil Conway, Ralph Kahango, Rhiannon Anderson, Robbie Cooper, Rue Mupedzi and Theo Loizou.

Nostalgic Week’s service Challenge began at Mei Jing Chinese Dine-In, with all the contestants. The judges asked them to pick an apron to segregate the contestants into teams. Adi got a white apron meaning she needn’t have to cook but can choose a team to aid them. If the team she chooses wins, she would also go along with them for the next day’s immunity pin challenge.

The day’s challenge was to create an entree dish, a main course meal, and a dessert that is not on the restaurant’s menu. The judges asked the team’s to choose a leader. The purple team chose Rue and the red team chose Theo. Then the timer began and the contestants went to their respective areas to discuss their dishes.

The purple team chose spring rolls as their entree, sticky lemon chicken as their main course, and pineapple fritter and icecream as the dessert. The red team chose pork son choy bow as their entree, beef and black mean with fried rice as their main and their dessert was lychees and vanilla ice cream.

During the preparation, both the teams kept their pace however the purple team was a tad bit behind. When there were only 30 minutes left, the purple team was struggling with the spring rolls but thankfully they worked it out. When the timer ended and the challenge began, the red team’s entree went in first.

The judges loved the generous amount of food and the rich flavours. The purple team’s spring rolls also got positive feedback since they managed to pull off within 30 minutes. However, their sauce lacked balance. Secondly, their main dishes were tried and the red team’s preparation impressed the judges while the purple team’s final outcome didn’t come off properly.

Finally both the team’s desserts were tasted and they were an utter failure. After the challenge ended the judges announced that the desserts of red and purple’s team disappointed them. Next, they revealed that the red team’s dishes worked for the day’s challenge and that they will be going to the immunity pin challenge.

MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 18 Review: Final Thoughts

Why was the Chinese restaurant chosen? I mean the challenge wasn’t bad but I expected more content since they chose such an aesthetic place. They could have shown more of the Chinese culture, made the contestants dress up in some attire (no cultural appropriation though), and such. However, it was just a common service challenge at a location. That’s it.

Apart from this, the preparations of the cooks were looking delicious and it was unfortunate that their desserts didn’t work out. The red team had a stunning cooperation and their ideas were pretty unique.
