Doctor Cha Episode 14 Recap

This episode starts off with Jeong-suk’s mother, Mrs Oh, absolutely breaking down Seo In-ho and Jeong-suk for lying to her about her son-in-law’s infidelity. To make the situation worse, Choi Seun-hi was also present at the gruesome crime scene. She was staring into the restaurant, and we saw In-ho make his way to them, telling them to leave. She doesn’t want to leave because of him, but the situation is so dire that she actually does leave with Eun-seo.

When Mrs Oh takes them back to her house, In-ho and Jeong-suk have a conversation about this affair, especially the child out-of-wedlock thing. Mrs Oh is incredibly disappointed in both of them. She wants to know why In-ho hasn’t done anything to apologise, and he explains that he has done that, but Jeong-suk hasn’t taken him back, and his mother-in-law absolutely does not care. It is a brilliant response when she says that the divorce is a topic the two of them discuss.

Fortunately, Jeong-suk is focusing on the problem at hand, ensuring her mother is well taken care of. She doesn’t want her mother to leave the hospital because it is the best in the country, and also, they can be together without Mrs Oh making any excuses to skip treatments. Jeong-suk feels so bad, she starts crying. However, Mrs Oh’s grandchildren are true gems because they come and visit her frequently, and I-rang went one step further and apologised to Choi Seung-hi about ruining Eun-seo’s chances at joining an art school.

She vows not to apply as well as punishment. Seung-hi doesn’t say anything after I-rang requests that the doctor look into her grandmother with great care. We really see a different and mature side of the girl who pulled the hair of her former best friend. In Mrs Oh’s room, we see I-rang and Jung-min having a great conversation, and this soon becomes a party when the two grandkids get some cake to cheer their grandma up.

It was a wonderful gesture that Mrs Oh especially loved. She also received some well-thought gifts. Soon, Mi-hee also comes to meet Jeong-suk to ask her about her mother, and we see the two of them go out to drink. After some inebriation on Mi-hee’s part, we see her saying that if Jeong-suk left In-ho, she could move her eyes to Roy Kim, who is interested in her. She doesn’t make it as explicit as this writer has put it, but it is quite understandable that there are some vibes between them.

Simultaneously, we see In-ho going to meet Choi Seung-hi at the tent restaurant. The two of them have a brief conversation, and the whole situation descends into an intense drinking game featuring In-ho, who is so inebriated at the end of it that Seung-hi has to drag him out of there. He cannot even stand up on his own. It is so bad that eventually, she just leaves him stranded outside his home with his shoes next to him. Jeong-suk and Seung-hi come to a truce after the former thanks the professor for treating her mother well.

Amidst all this, she has made her decision clear after her conversation with Seung-hi. They realised that this whole mess with the affair and everything was affecting their children. Seung-hi asks Jeong-suk to tell I-rang she must attend the university she wants. This conversation prompts Jeong-suk to make the divorce decision final, so she sends the papers to him, detailing this mutual agreement. In-ho is so annoyed that he asks Jeong-suk to go to court if she wants any actual action.

She immediately does that and sends a notice to In-ho. He is once again annoyed and has a big fight with her. He wonders out loud if she wants a divorce because of Roy Kim, and she absolutely cannot take that kind of slander, so she leaves. On the other hand, Roy Kim has been having the time of his life, because the police found his parents. The first person he tells is Jeong-suk, and he requests her if they could go together.

They get there and are nervous, waiting for a response from the police. After they go in, Roy Kim realises that his mother has passed and his father has no problem bad-mouthing her. His birth siblings explain that the only reason they came forward is because they needed a bone marrow transplant for their father. It makes him disappointed, and we see that Jeong-suk can cheer him up by making them run to the hospital, where Jeong-suk’s mother is getting discharged. Before they can leave, Jeong-suk goes into her mother’s room to get everything in order. However, she is plagued with a coughing fit where we see blood on the handkerchief.

Doctor Cha Episode 14 Review

This episode finally brought the spark back. The past few episodes were feeling dry and repetitive. However, having Jeong-suk’s mother find out the secret was a brilliant way to make the whole situation too real. Additionally, seeing all these characters be incredibly mature has just increased this writer’s love for writing and the modern understanding of relationships.

Moreover, we get a full look into Roy Kim’s reason for not pursuing Jeong-suk, and it is such brilliant writing that we definitely need more men like that in our lives. It will also be interesting to see how they handle this whole divorce situation with In-ho and if he will actually make an effort to go to court. Additionally, this week’s cliffhanger is so good there have to be some crazy things coming in the finale week.
