Love and Death Episode 5 Reactions: Elizabeth Olsen’s ‘Emmy-Worthy’ Performance Leaves Everyone Speechless

Love and Death Episode 5 reactions prove that Elizabeth Olsen’s fans rallying in support of her next possible Emmy nomination. Ever since the series premiered with its first 3 episodes on April 27, 2023, the grand range of the Olsen’s performance has presented chilling instances of her acting chops. Each episode only keeps on adding further weight to that argument and Episode 5, titled ‘The Arrest’, not only had the actress screaming her heart out (quite literally), it equally had her fans screaming in appreciation of her calibre as well.

Starring Elizabeth Olsen as Candy Montgomery, Jesse Plemons as Allan Gore, Lily Rabe as Betty Gore, Krysten Ritter as Sherry Cleckler, Elizabeth Marvel as Jackie Ponder, Patrick Fugit as Pat Montgomery and others, Love and Death has been created and written for TV by David E Kelley. The series’ episodes have been directed by Lesli Linka Glatter, while Nicole Kidman and Per Saari are few of the executive producers of the HBO Max true-crime miniseries.

Based on Texas Monthly articles and the book Evidence of Love by Jim Atkinson and John Bloom, its story centres around the real-life story of a Texan housewife who was ultimately accused of brutally murdering her friend in the ’80s.

In the new episode, the police authorities narrow their suspicions to Candy Montgomery and eventually even take her into their custody. While for so long she’d been propagating the message that she had nothing to do with Betty’s death, she ultimately confided in her lawyer, Don Crowder, since he needed to the truth before proceeding ahead with the case. It became one of the most-talked-about scenes of the day as Olsen’s fine acting and expressions drew the viewers in. Many noted how “her eyes spoke for her” way before the actual confession makes it out of her mouth.

Another scene that took centre stage was when her character was taken in for therapy, which involved some sort of hypnotism as well. It helped Candy tap into her suppressed pains and traumas of childhood, which in turn could be associated with all the rush of feelings she felt during her altercation with Betty on the fateful day as well. This particular scene saw “Lizzie” (as many of her fans call her) screaming and the audience shaking with fear of all the might contained in her performance. A long-running stream of tweets saying the same things started pouring in on Twitter, demanding her Emmy nomination/ win.

In 2021, she was received a Prime-time Emmy nomination for her portrayal of Wanda Maximoff/ Scarlet Witch in the MCU TV series WandaVision. Her admirers have also pointed towards a possible WandaVision Easter egg in the series as the series proclaimed her the “scarlet woman”. To be fair enough, it seems more like a reference to her adulterous acts, hence the hints to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel The Scarlet Letter, which led with a similar theme of adultery.
