XO Kitty is an upcoming coming-of-age romantic comedy Series that will be premiering on Netflix. Created by Jenny Han, it is a spin-off of the To All the Boys film series that is based on Han’s book series To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. Apart from being the showrunner, Han will also serve as writer and executive producer.
The series will feature the younger Covey sister, Kitty and Anna Cathcart will be reprising the lead role.
The trailer opens with Kitty giving a small monologue about her ‘true love’. After witnessing Lara Jean and Peter’s beautiful love for each other, she says that she knows what ‘true love’ is. She has formed expectations about her own relationship based on her sister’s and continues to live by it. The scene shifts to present day where she convinces her parents to travel to South Korea for her further studies and she reveals that her long-distance boyfriend studies there as well.
However, after she flys thousands of miles across to meet Han, she realises that he was already in a relationship. Devastated she tries to console herself and continue to complete her graduation. But she is met with roadblocks in form of classmates who do not want her around. As the new girl, she faces many hurdles as the other students think that she came solely for a boy, nevertheless, she wants to show everyone that the decision she made was not just to meet Han, but also to advance in her academics.
She takes up the challenge and tries to create an adventure of her own. In a new country and city, she longs to experience new things and establish her own identity. Along the way she makes multiple friends, faces bullys and also falls in love. But most of all, she tries to become her own person and rise above the petty things that tries to hold her down.
This is first time Netflix has created a spin-off series from a original movie. The Film Series was a huge success and became a worldwide sensation across the younger generation. The new show is also highly anticipated and expected to live up to its predecessor. It will be interesting to witness how Kitty gets through the tough periods of her life.
