The Diplomat Ending Explained dives deep into Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell’s Political thriller Netflix series, centred around foreign affairs and international relations. The Diplomat Ending Explained

This political thriller series starts with a naval attack that takes place on a British carrier ship, which leads to the demise of 41 English servicemen on board. Notably, right after this drastic event, Kate Wyler, who was supposed to join Kabul as the next spot in her ambassadorship, gets resigned as the foremost US ambassador to the United Kingdom, leading to the first step of the falling domino pieces.

Kate’s overachieving husband and former Diplomat, Hal Wyler, also accompanies her on the mission, as they both gear up to stabilize the relationship between the powerful nations. The fictional UK counterpart in the show assumes that the attack was curated by Iran, and was a direct result of the US president’s speech. Moreover, the primal responsibility of Kate Wyler is to clear such doubts and hunt down the real people behind the attack.

The show zooms into the world of political hypocrisy and depreciating egos, while Kate gets a taste of betrayal from every direction. At first, it is her own people, who share a secret about her future representations, followed by some major external revelations in the show.

At the end of episode 1, Kate learns about the intentions of the White House, to replace the current Vice President position. Moreover, she also gets a heads-up about being the frontrunner for the role. Throughout the series, Kate expresses her dissatisfaction with the vice-presidency and clears her intentions about seeking a rather tailor-made role.

Moreover, her rocky marriage with Hal also sneaks into her personal and professional ambitions, which brews new chemistry with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison. She reveals the information about her impending divorce to the inner circle and puts forward the idea of an unfit public image.

As it turns out, everything that Kate does in the first half is basically a test for the fierce ambassador. Kate’s inner circle tries to revamp her image completely and present her as the pitch-perfect candidate for the vice presidency. Furthermore, the weird set of tricks and tactics work in unison, when Wyler starts to give in to the proposal, at last.

The round of accusations regarding the terrorist attack shift different bases, and moves from Iran to Russia, over the course of eight episodes. However, when Kate learns that even Russia isn’t part of the coup, she starts to hunt down the main perpetrator of the attack. The ambassador prepares a full-proof plan to extradite the criminal and get down to the bottom of things.

Notably, towards the end of the series, the plan takes a simultaneous turn, when Kate and Hal get drifted apart after she learns about his intentions to claim the position of secretary of state. Even though Kate convinces her French counterpart about the extradite operations, she finds out the plan of UK intelligence to assassinate the criminal.

Both Kate and the Dennison get the shock of their life, after learning the involvement of the British Prime Minister in the entire ordeal. The United States Ambassador deduces his vicious plan to eliminate the last living trail, to hide his involvement in the Naval attack. Morever, before the situation moves forward, Hal gets involved in a car blast (meant for Kate) and complicates the situation.
