Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 6 Review: Discussion

While a part of me can’t seem to see Rebecca and Ted together romantically, the others still keep rooting for them to be the endgame. Today’s episode worked again as a soft, subtle, yet meaningful nudge in that direction, with Ted constantly checking up on her and leaving a streak of messages. On the other hand, Rebecca may have been with another unnamed Dutchman at the time, but once you pick up on the hints of how much that man played in as the Dutch analogue of Ted’s character, there’s no unseeing it.

The latest episode mostly settled in as a filler yet a much-needed getaway for the team and Ted. With his spirits reignited, we witness a quirky lookalike moment from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince when Harry handed out the fake ‘Liquid Luck’ to his best friend, Ron, so that he could make it through the Quidditch match. Lasso experiences a similar breakthrough as he almost makes it through the tea, disguising the mind-opening mushrooms in it, as served by his colleague/friend, Beard, only for the concoction to be proclaimed as a “dud” by him later on.

The heartening discussion that led to a new blooming friendship between Colin and Trent Crimm was one of the most warming moments of the ‘Sunflowers’ episode. Plus, the little throwback to the first season’s team-building ideas – movie night or a pillow fight – pitched in by their coach became one of the most Ted Lasso-esque moments to have emerged from this entry.

Roy and Jamie’s growing friendship over the seasons has been a treat. Watching them shed their inhibitions and open up to each other about their past stories is not only a breakthrough for each of them individually, as neither of them has to keep it all bottled in anymore, but it’s also another step forward in their healthy and supportive friendship arc.

The Ted Lasso soundtrack has always found a way to complement the storytelling style of the episodes. Ending on a high note with the entire team harmonising to Don’t Worry Bout a Thing, while Ted continued to draw in his gameplays in the notebook was a comforting reminder to Richmond and the audience waiting for the team to win a watch.

Moreover, Ted being surrounded by Beard and Rebecca on either side, whilst they become the reason for the smile on his face, exuded the fun-loving family energy that Lasso has been in dire need of. Coming back to TedBecca, while I wasn’t a big fan of Rebecca’s whole escapade with the Dutchman because it felt quite out of place. However, as long as it’s a small bait for the bigger fish in the pond, I’m all for it.

Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 6: Favourite Moments

  • Jamie teaching Roy how to ride a bike, heading out for their little adventure on the lookout for a windmill, trading stories and finding an unspoken comfort in each other’s company.
  • Trent and Colin: “I know we can’t fix every ache inside of us, but I shouldn’t have to pretend it’s not there either.”
  • Ted finding inspiration at an American diner in Amsterdam.
  • The entire team singing Bob Marley’s Don’t Worry Bout a Thing.
  • Lastly, if this episode’s eccentric march to its drum isn’t explanatory enough as to who wrote it, then seeing Coach Beard turn up as Piggy Stardust is the only hint you’ll need to confirm the actor himself indeed wrote it.

Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 6 is now streaming on Apple TV+.
